Trump supporters think their ‘election night meltdown’ videos are being deleted

TwitterFacebook

Is YouTube deleting those popular pro-Trump video compilations mocking Democrats and liberals “melting down” over Donald Trump’s 2016 election night win?

No, but a conspiracy theory is gaining traction on Reddit alleging just that.

On /r/The_Donald, Reddit’s main Trump community consisting of more than 650,000 members, a post detailing yet another manufactured case of tech’s “anti-conservative bias” has taken off. “HAPPENING: YouTube is CURRENTLY mass censoring and deleting videos of the 2016 election night meltdown,” the post, which currently has more than 5,000 upvotes, states. “Take a look yourself. What was previously filled with compilations and clips of Democrats losing their minds has been replaced with MSM outlets. Find what you can and save.”  Read more…

Look at these dumb email accounts Russian trolls made to influence the 2016 election

TwitterFacebook

We can’t say they didn’t have a sense of humor.

Today, the U.S. Justice Department brought detailed charges against the Russian Internet Research Agency for its attempts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election in favor of Donald Trump. With those charges,  we were gifted with a detailed look at the inner-workings of the Russian “troll farm” that has shaped our national discourse over the past year and a half — and it’s surprisingly funny.

The Russian group has been accused of creating social media accounts tied to fake persons and paying to promote their various pro-Trump shenanigans. To accomplish this, IRA employees obtained “fraudulent bank account numbers for the purpose of evading PayPal’s security measures.” Read more…

Mark Zuckerberg’s answer to ‘fake news’ is this garbage 2-question survey

TwitterFacebook

Mark Zuckerberg is here to save us from Mark Zuckerberg.

On Tuesday, just four days after the Facebook CEO announced his intention to revamp the News Feed in favor of “high quality content,” we were gifted a sneak peek at the means by which he will deliver us from the scourge of so-called fake news

It takes the form of a survey, and, sadly, we regret to inform you that things aren’t looking so good.

In a 464-word decree, the Zuck promised his disciples that the power to decide what is right and true shall henceforth be in their hands. You see, it will be up to them — the very same people who believed the Pope endorsed Donald Trump — to determine what news sources are to be trusted.  Read more…

This was the year we turned on social media

TwitterFacebook

With each passing day comes yet another reason to question the notion that the long arc of the universe bends toward justice. However, this year, in particular, has made it resoundingly clear that — regardless of the direction of that arc — the process by which it bends manifests with stuttering jolts and fits. Things seem one way to many people, until, for whatever reason, all of the sudden everyone realizes they’re not.

It is a similar reckoning that has befallen the do-no-wrong darling of the tech industry: social media. Long heralded by its profits as a digital panacea for our fractured world, services like Facebook and Twitter have instead come to both represent and fuel our darker natures.  Read more…

Super thirsty WikiLeaks slid into Donald Trump Jr.’s DMs

TwitterFacebook

WikiLeaks messaged Donald Trump Jr. throughout the 2016 election and beyond — and often, even if the president’s eldest son rarely responded.

The Atlantic found the organization was sending direct messages to Trump Jr.’s Twitter account for 10 months, up until July 2017. Writer Julia Ioffe discovered them after the messages were turned over to Congress as part of the investigations into Russian involvement in the election.

And, yeah, they make WikiLeaks seem pretty desperate.

The messages asked Trump Jr. to publicly share stories and information. At one point, the organization asked for Trump’s tax returns. Read more…
