Now that some people have seen Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald it’s time to discuss some of the movie’s more shocking, upsetting, and truly bizarre moments.

1. So the opening shot refers to MACUSA as the “American Ministry of Magic.”

The final trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was teeming with Harry Potter clues and tidbits, but one in particular has fans – how do we put this – losing their shit this morning: The reveal that Nagini, who we know was Voldemort’s final horcrux and erstwhile pet snake, is alive and well in the Beasts era, and she’s actually a human woman (Claudia Kim).

‘Fantastic Beasts’ actor finally settles that plot hole controversy

Harry Potter fans (like so many hardcore fans) are serious about protecting the beloved universe they grew up with. So much so that they’ve apparently stopped trusting its creator to get basic parts of the canon right.

When a trailer for the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sequel released, a second-long clip sent the Potter Twitterverse into an absolute frenzy, decrying a perceived plot hole in the most Hermione way possible:

There was a time when Harry Potter fans would have been delighted to see Johnny Depp in their beloved films – heck, there was a time when we didn’t know Depp had abused his ex-wife, and neither of those times is now. 

On Thursday, Warner Bros. released the first cast photo for the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sequel, with the shockingly tone-deaf title The Crimes of Grindelwald. Depp and his hideous frosted hair are here to stay; he now plays the titular character, and the film’s title reveal is nothing if not a giant middle finger to Harry Potter fans and audiences around the world.
