Violent fire vortex sucks up a firehose in dramatic video. What happened?

Thousands of miles away from the deadly deluges brought by the now-tropical depression Florence, wildland firefighters are still battling extreme blazes out West.

An intense video posted to Instagram on Sunday shows a firefighting crew’s violent meeting with a large fire vortex, known scientifically as a fire whirl.

Wildland firefighter M.C. Schidlowsky — whose Instagram handle is mar.lowsky — posted the video taken in British Columbia, showing the vortex sucking a firehose up into the churning winds.

The crew was powerless to pull the heavy hose back. One firefighter, after the vortex ripped the hose away, hurled a rock at the fire, seemingly in frustration. Read more…

Usually firefighters are more in the cat-saving game, but it seems they can make an exception for good dogs.

On Wednesday, firefighters from the Tulsa Fire Department came to the aid of a dog who found herself stuck in the middle of a slippery frozen creek, using a rubber dinghy and some 10/10 scooching skills.

Incredible footage shows firefighter catching child thrown from balcony

If you ever doubted the bravery of firefighters (for argument’s sake, because why would anyone do that) let this video be the living proof that they are, in fact, heroes.

On Monday DeKalb County Fire Department released helmet-cam footage, showing the moment when a firefighter caught a child who was thrown off the third story of a burning apartment building on 3 January in Decatur, Georgia.

This wasn’t the only child to be thrown from the building.

“We were catching babies like a football — literally,” County Fire Rescue Capt. Eric Jackson told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Read more…

TwitterFacebook

YouTube pranksters build their audience through daring and outrageous videos — but this time they might’ve gone too far.

TGFbro, a 22-year-old prankster who has 3 million subscribers on YouTube, mixed seven bags of Polyfilla, and then, with the help of some friends, poured it on a microwave and put his head inside.

The prankster had a plastic bag around his head with an air tube for breathing. But as he started to struggle to breathe, TGFbro asked his friends to free him.

After some 90 minutes of failed attempts, the group decided to call the fire brigade.  Read more…
