Adnan Syed of ‘Serial’ denied new trial days before HBO series on the case premieres

TwitterFacebook

Adnan Syed, the focus of the first season of the hit podcast Serial, has been denied a retrial.

The highest court in Maryland, the Court of Appeals, overturned a ruling to grant Syed a new trial and vacate his previous murder conviction.

Since 2000, Syed has been in prison serving a life sentence for the 1999 murder of his high school girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. Syed has maintained his innocence throughout the years behind bars.

His argument rested on the failure of Syed’s defense lawyer at the time to call a witness who saw Syed in the library on the afternoon of Lee’s disappearance. The court ruled that while his lawyer was “deficient” in not having this witness testify, Syed was not “prejudiced” by the “deficient performance” because there was other evidence that proved him guilty. The ‘Game of Thrones’ actors sure sound like they were in hell shooting Season 8’s big battle

TwitterFacebook

We can always count on Game of Thrones to push the boundaries of television, but a Season 8 battle sequence sounds like it may have pushed the show’s cast and crew to their limits and beyond.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Thrones team broke down their literal breakdown from the three-month shoot that will become the battle of Winterfell – the show’s most ambitious yet, known internally as “The Long Night.”

“Nothing can prepare you for how physically draining it is,” said Maisie Williams, who plays a highly-trained fighter but will make her battlefield debut this season. “It’s night after night, and again and again, and it just doesn’t stop. You can’t get sick, and you have to look out for yourself because there’s so much to do that nobody else can do…there are moments you’re just broken as a human and just want to cry.” Read more…
