Prince William and Kate Middleton are the king and queen of draught beer

TwitterFacebook

Prince William and Kate Middleton just proved that they, like many of their fellow Britons, love a good pint. Or at least they like pouring them.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge served up two cold pints when they visited Belfast on a tour of Northern Ireland in celebration of young people making a difference in their communities.

Kensington Palace tweeted a video of the pair, where Middleton is pouring up a cold pint of Harp (an Irish lager).

Singapore Airlines passengers have a camera pointed at them

TwitterFacebook

If you’re flying with Singapore Airlines, don’t be surprised if it looks as though there’s a camera staring at you from the back of the seat in front. There is a camera present, but the airline insists it isn’t being used.

The discovery of the tiny camera, which we’re more used to seeing positioned above laptop displays, was made by passenger Vitaly Kamluk. He tweeted asking for expert opinion as to whether this was indeed a camera.

Just found this interesting sensor looking at me from the seat back on board of Singapore Airlines. Any expert opinion of whether this a camera? Perhaps @SingaporeAir could clarify how it is used? pic.twitter.com/vy0usqruZG

Fyre Festival’s CMO Grant Margolin appears to be working again … as a business tutor

TwitterFacebook

Grant Margolin, the chief marketing officer of the colossal disaster that was Fyre Festival, seemed to drop off the face of the Earth after the event.

The festival’s founder and CEO, Billy McFarland, is serving six years in prison for defrauding over 100 investors out of $27.4 million. But Margolin, who is portrayed in both recent Fyre Festival documentaries as McFarland’s right-hand man, settled out of court and has kept a low profile.

All the documentaries managed to say about what he does now is that he volunteers as an EMT.

But now it seems Margolin has been found — selling his services in New York City as a tutor, specializing in business and marketing, for $90 an hour. But we’ll get back to that.  Read more…

Snoozers are losers: Everything you need to know about the button we love to hate

TwitterFacebook

When your alarm went off this morning, did you leap cheerfully out of bed like some kind of psychopath… or did you do the predictable thing and hit that snooze button?

Love it or hate it — or even love to hate it — the snooze button is as much a part of our modern morning routine as breakfast radio shows and scoffing cereal.

But what’s the story behind this quirk of modern life? And by tapping that fateful nine-more-minutes-of-sleep option, are we really cheating the system — or just ourselves?  Read more…

The Very Slow Movie Player shows films at a fraction of normal speed

TwitterFacebook

There’s surely a movie you love enough that you wish you could put it on your walls.

The Very Slow Movie Player (VSMP) is a device that plays films at 24 frames an hour, rather than the usual 24 frames a second.

In a Medium post, designer Bryan Boyer explained that he put the project together to “celebrate slowness.” The device consists of an ePaper display, hooked up to a Raspberry Pi computer with custom software, and housed in a 3D-printed case.

Every 2.5 minutes, one frame from the film stored on the computer’s memory card is extracted, converted to black-and-white, then displayed on the screen. Read more…

14 of the biggest royal family moments from 2018

TwitterFacebook

What a year it’s been for the royal family!

While 2018 has been a mean old year for us mere mortals, those whose blood runs blue have had a festive year with not one but two weddings and some pretty major announcements.

Now that the year is coming to an end, it’s time to look back at the most memorable royal family moments from 2018.

1. *The* wedding

Two different royals may have tied the knot in 2018, but the first wedding of the year was also the most spectacular.

The whole world (or at least 29 million people, per Nielsen figures) watched Prince Harry wed Meghan Markle tie the knot in St George’s Chapel on May 19th. Not only was the ceremony quite the showstopper, the guest list was out. of. this. world. In attendance was the Queen of England *AND* the Queen of the Universe, Oprah.  Read more…
