Trump shrank 2 national monuments by nearly 2 million acres. He can’t do that to Yellowstone.

TwitterFacebook

President Trump may have just dramatically slashed the size of two national monuments in Utah, but America’s 59 national parks — as well as over 270 other national park sites — cannot be unilaterally downsized by Trump or any other president.

The legal reason is simple and inarguable:

“National parks can only be established by Congress, and everyone agrees they can only be undone, if at all, by Congress,” Holly Doremus, a natural resources law expert at University of California, Berkeley, told Mashable in an email.

49 times we thought 2017 couldn’t get any worse, and then oh god

TwitterFacebook

Once upon a time, I prayed for 2016 to end. Now I’d do anything to get it and its incredibly corny hot takes about dead celebrities back.

Let’s be honest — 2017 was a bad year. There were heroic moments sprinkled throughout, including the time the almighty Congresswoman Maxine Waters walked away from a group of reporters and launched her superstar careerA feminist hippo was born. Someone made whatever the hell this is.

But by and large, 2017 was a year shaped by anger and Donald Trump tweets and Sean Spicer holocaust revisionism.

New Zealand’s prime minister delivered a sick burn to Donald Trump

TwitterFacebook

New Zealand’s new prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, has really hit the ground running.

Although the PM started her term with the tragic loss of her internet-beloved cat, Paddles, things are comin’ up Milhouse after an apparent little dig at U.S. President Donald Trump.

In an interview with New Zealand news site Newsroom, Ardern, who was elected in October, recapped her recent visit to the East Asia Summit.

Best bit? A small serving for Trump.

“I was waiting to walk out to be introduced at the East Asia Summit gala dinner, where we all paraded and while we were waiting, Trump in jest patted the person next to him on the shoulder, pointed at me and said, ‘This lady caused a lot of upset in her country,’ talking about the election.” Read more…

Detective Trump says he believes Putin about Russian meddling, and we have one, tiny criticism

TwitterFacebook

Good news, guys! Everyone at the FBI, DOJ, NSA, DHS, and CIA was wrong — there’s no way Russia interfered without elections, according to a very definitive source, Detective Donald Trump.

On Friday, Trump reported that he had asked Putin about Russian interference in the 2016 election and that Putin had denied all allegations. That was enough for hard-nosed Detective Trump to conclude his year-long investigation into Russian interference.

We’re cool now!

Here’s the president’s exhaustive analysis.

“He said he didn’t meddle. I asked him again. You can only ask so many times. I just asked him again. He said he absolutely did not meddle in our election. He did not do what they are saying he did,” Trump said in a session with reporters aboard Air Force One. Read more…

Donald Trump reacts to his Twitter account being taken down for 11 minutes

TwitterFacebook

Everything happens on Twitter these days.

Donald J. Trump responds, Trump-style, on Twitter after a Twitter employee (who was on his last day at the company) deactivated his Twitter account.

“My Twitter account was taken down for 11 minutes by a rogue employee. I guess the word must finally be getting out-and having an impact,” the President tweeted.
