Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’ teaser is incredibly intense yet shows painfully little

Forget stunning visuals: all you really need to make a very intense trailer is ominous music, shell casing sound effects and some dialogue about house painting.

That may not sound all too intriguing on paper, but the teaser for Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman — which is based on Charles Brandt’s novel I Heard You Paint Houses — makes it work.

The cast list — which includes gangster favourites Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel — almost certainly helps too.

Jeff Sessions tenure as Donald Trump’s attorney general has come to an end, and the latest Saturday Night Live fittingly devoted its cold open to showing Kate McKinnon’s ever-creepy Sessions impression the door. 

Alec Baldwin’s Trump is a no-show, but the sketch does welcome a line-up of Trump orbit impersonators: Aidy Bryant’s Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Beck Bennett’s Mike Pence, Alex Moffat and Mikey Day’s Eric and Donald Trump Jr. — the gang’s all here. We even get a special appearance from one Robert Mueller, played again by Robert De Niro (McKinnon has also taken on the Mueller part before). Read more…

Donald Trump and his henchmen— er, administration had a busy week after the home, office, and hotel room of Trump personal attorney Michael Cohen were raided by the FBI. And Saturday Night Live pulled out all the stops in the latest cold open as a result.

Ben Stiller’s Cohen visits Washington, D.C. for a meeting that turns out to be an ambush: Waiting for him is none other than Robert Mueller (Robert De Niro), along with a polygraph test.
