Lime just dropped some serious e-scooter drama

E-scooters can really rile people up — whether it’s cities trying to contain the onslaught of the mini motorized vehicles, or celebs such as actor-turned-venture-capitalist Ashton Kutcher fighting for their rights at a tech conference, it seems we are a nation divided.

And sometimes, it’s the scooter companies that can get all hot and bothered.

Take Lime, for example. Last week, the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency shut down any aspirations the scooter-share company had of operating in the city, instead giving two newer companies, Scoot and Skip, permits to test scooters within the city for the next year.  Read more…

Uber wants to use scooters and bikes to become the ‘Amazon of transportation’

Right now, Uber is the app you open to request a car to pick you up. But it wants to be the app where you can find a bicycle or borrow someone else’s car — and, soon, where to rent e-scooters.

On Thursday, Uber made it easier to request these non-ride-hail options with “mode switch.” Instead of hiding the options within a menu, the top of the app will now list the different Uber options: cars, bikes, scooters, and rental cars.

At the TechCrunch Disrupt main stage in San Francisco on Thursday, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi recommitted to alternative transit options like bikes and scooters.  Read more…
