Shodan Safari, where hackers heckle the worst devices put on the internet

If you leave something on the internet long enough, someone will hack it. The reality is that many device manufacturers make it far too easy by using default passwords that are widely documented, allowing anyone to log in as “admin” and snoop around. Often, there’s no password at all. Enter “Shodan Safari,” a popular part-game, […]

Instagram is no longer notifying users when you screenshot their story

TwitterFacebook

In January, Instagram started testing an interesting new feature: It would notify users when someone took a screenshot of their stories.

According to BuzzFeed, though, Instagram is no longer testing the feature.

Instagram Stories, just like Snapchat Stories, are designed to be ephemeral — meaning they are only available for a short period of time, and then they’re gone forever. This limitation can obviously be avoided in numerous ways, with taking a screenshot or recording a video being the most obvious. But many users who would think of doing so would likely pause if they thought the person who posted the video would be notified that their story is being screenshotted/recorded.  Read more…

Windows 10 is getting a great new screenshot tool

TwitterFacebook

As someone that moves from macOS to Windows frequently and takes screenshots all the time (I admit, it’s a little specific, but I can’t be the only one), one of the most annoying things about Windows is the lack of an integrated, powerful screenshot tool.

Yes, there were several ways to take a screenshot in Windows, but nothing compared to the simplicity of hitting Shift+Command+3 or 4 to capture your entire screen or a portion of it.

Instagram is testing screenshot alerts for stories

Instagram is testing a feature that will show users when someone else takes a screenshot of their story. Users included in the test are getting a warning that the next time they take a screenshot of a friend’s story the friend will be able to see it, as shown below: Good bye freedom to screenshot IG stories. Thank you, Instagram for the warning. pic.twitter.com/y0pEaVR0Jq —… Read More

Instagram is supposedly testing a feature that tells you when someone’s recorded your story

TwitterFacebook

Did you really think Instagram was going to stop copying Snapchat features in 2018?

Now, Instagram is reportedly testing a new feature — one that Snapchat already has — that notifies users when someone’s taken a screenshot or screen recording of your stories.

Tech news site WABetaInfo claims that Instagram is testing the feature, but only internally. The website previously reported on Instagram testing a new word-focused tool called “Text” that can be used in the app’s stories feature.

According to WABetaInfo, users will see a special icon next to a person’s name if they take a screenshot or recording of your story. Read more…
