Uber is still a shiny unicorn per Silicon Valley standards, but the ride-hailing giant is nowhere near as magical as it used to be.
The latest development in a series of unfortunate events: Uber signed off on a new funding round that could total up to $10 billion. That cash infusion, led by Japan’s SoftBank Group and U.S. investment group Dragoneer, would be classified as a war chest to nearly every other company in the world. But to Uber, it’s a sad development in a long wave of painful setbacks.
“We believe this agreement is a strong vote of confidence in Uber’s long-term potential. Upon closing, it will help fuel our investments in technology and our continued expansion at home and abroad, while strengthening our corporate governance” an Uber spokesperson wrote in an email to Mashable. What good are 280 characters if you have to shout them from a measly 20-character display name?
Just two days following the surprise announcement that Twitter would be doubling the character count allowed per tweet, the San Francisco-based company is back with another update — and you’d better believe it’s about yet even more characters. That’s right, as of Nov. 9, your display name can be more than twice as long as the old rules allowed.
How long? 50 characters long.
“Starting today, your Twitter display name can be up to 50 characters in length,” the company announced via tweet. “Go ahead, add that middle name or even a few more emojis.” Read more…

Co-working space provider WeWork is looking towards a new generation of entrepreneurs—many of whom probably don’t know what that word means.
The $20 billion startup said Monday that it’s launching a private elementary school inside one its trendy New York office spaces with a pilot class of seven, including a child of founders Adam and Rebekah Neumann, Bloomberg reported.
“In my book, there’s no reason why children in elementary schools can’t be launching their own businesses,” Rebekah Neumann told the news site in an interview. Read more…
