Yes, it’s weird that the Han Solo spinoff doesn’t have a trailer yet

As of today, we’re less than four months away from the next Star Wars movie. But you’d never know it from the marketing campaign – or, rather, the total lack thereof.

To date, we’ve seen next to nothing from Solo: no trailer, no teaser, no poster, not even an official image, unless you count that behind-the-scenes promo pic from the first week of shooting. 

That’s freaking weird, any way you slice it – but whether that’s bad is another question entirely. For one thing, Disney may have their own reasons for holding off on promoting Solo, which we’ll get to in a second. For another, a clumsy marketing campaign doesn’t always signal a terrible movie, just as a strong marketing campaign doesn’t always deliver a great one.  Read more…

John Williams is back for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’, but there’s a catch

Solo is bringing back a beloved member of the classic Star Wars crew – but there’s a catch.

John Williams, whose legendary music has driven all but one of the Star Wars movies to date, is set to return for Solo: A Star Wars Story

However, he’ll only write the theme, not the whole score. The primary composer for the movie is still John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon), as announced in July

Williams explained the situation to Variety. “What I will do is offer this to John [Powell], and to [director] Ron Howard, and if all parties are happy with it, then I will be happy,” he said. “John will complete the score. He will write all the rest of the themes and all of the other material, which I’m going to be very anxious to hear.” Read more…
