Someone left a poignant note for Christine Blasey Ford ahead of the Kavanaugh hearing

TwitterFacebook

An unknown individual left a note for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford Thursday ahead of her testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The note, which was placed on a witness table and written on Senate stationary, reads, “Good luck, Dr. Ford.”

It’s a kind gesture, probably, but it’s also a little foreboding.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford are testifying before the Judiciary Committee regarding Ford’s accusation that Kavanaugh — who is up for a spot on the U.S. Supreme Court — sexually assaulted her at a high school party in 1982.  Read more…

Senator Hirono wants men to ‘just shut up’ and ‘do the right thing for a change’

TwitterFacebook

It’s been a particularly brutal week for women on Capitol Hill, and Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii is sick of it.

Asked about the allegations against Kavanaugh on Tuesday, Hirono expressed deep frustrations with the entire Senate Judiciary process, accusing the White House of victimizing Christine Blasey Ford, Kavanaugh’s accuser.

“I think we all know when something is unfair. When something smells. We all know this. Let’s face it: This is so patently unfair to her. What really bothers me and gets me so angry is that the White House is victimizing this person […] Why should we participate in a victimization who has the courage to come forward? And she is under absolutely no obligation to participate in a smearing of her and her family.”  Read more…

Brett Kavanaugh snubs Parkland victim’s father at Senate confirmation hearing

TwitterFacebook

Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee got off to quite a raucous start on Tuesday. There were protests and clashes between Democratic and Republican senators, but it was an odd snub made by Kavanaugh that’s getting the most attention.

As Kavanaugh left his table upon the beginning of a lunch break, a man can be seen approaching Kavanaugh and extending his hand for a handshake. After a brief look, Kavanaugh turned and walked away, never shaking the man’s hand.

Wow, here’s Kavanaugh giving @fred_guttenberg a contemptuous look before turning his back on him. Guttenberg’s daughter was killed in the Parkland gun massacre pic.twitter.com/Fz9e0gwytv

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s brutal education in net neutrality

DC Circuit Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh has been nominated for the position of Supreme Court Justice, and on this occasion I think it warranted that we revisit in detail the sound intellectual thrashing this man suffered at the hands of his colleagues just last year on the topic of the internet and net neutrality. Because Kavanaugh was very, very wrong then and gives every indication that he will take his ignorance unapologetically to the highest court in the land.

Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s SCOTUS pick, could be the final nail in net neutrality’s coffin

TwitterFacebook

Since President Donald Trump took office, net neutrality – the principle that internet service providers should treat all content equally and keep it accessible to all – has been under constant attack.

Brett Kavanaugh is the president’s latest blow to a future with a free and open internet. And we know this because Kavanaugh, a DC Circuit Court of Appeals judge whom Trump has picked to replace a retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, has tackled the issue before.

In his dissent following a ruling that upheld net neutrality in the face of a legal attack by ISPs, Kavanaugh leveled a multi-faceted assault against an open internet. Read more…
