Theresa May getting locked in a car pretty much sums up how Brexit’s going

TwitterFacebook

Just when you thought that nothing else could possibly go wrong in the endless parade of obstacles that is Brexit, Theresa May’s gone and got  locked in a car.

On her way to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a bid to rescue her Brexit deal, May got trapped momentarily inside her vehicle. Merkel looked on, waiting for May to exit the car, while officials kept trying the door handle to extricate her.

You couldn’t make it up, honestly.

Here’s some glorious footage of this rather unfortunate moment:

Andy Serkis brings back Gollum to parody Theresa May

TwitterFacebook

As you’re likely aware, the UK’s Brexit deal is well, not very popular.

Despite the turmoil, the deal is very precious to Prime Minister Theresa May though, which makes it prime parody material for Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the Lord of the Rings film series.

“This is it. Our deal,” Serkis, dressed as May, said in the video. “We takes back control — borders, laws, blue passports.”

It’s part of a campaign for the People’s Vote, a group calling for another referendum on whether the UK should leave the European Union. Read more…

Theresa May’s awkward dancing has become an inevitable meme

TwitterFacebook

If you’re a politician and you decide to engage in some spontaneous dancing at a public event, you’d better believe it’s going to become a meme.

The latest example of this comes courtesy of the UK’s Prime Minister Theresa May. On Wednesday, she made her grand entrance to the Conservative Party conference dancing to ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”.

First, here’s an important recap:

Theresa May just danced on stage to ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ and yep, you read that right

TwitterFacebook

The UK Prime Minister just danced to ABBA at the Conservative Party Conference. Yes, you read that correctly.

As she walked on stage Theresa May did a little jig to – wait for it – “Dancing Queen.”

May has been mocked by people on the internet since she flashed her robotic dancing skills during a state visit to Kenya.

But she wasn’t going to let that stop her from having the time of her life as she went on stage to deliver her speech.

See that girl. Watch that scene.

Washington hit China hard on tech influence this week

After months of back-and-forth negotiations, Washington moved rapidly this past week to fend off the increasing transcendence of China’s tech industry, with Congress passing expanded national security controls over M&A transactions and the Trump administration heaping more pressure on China with threats of increased tariffs. We’ve been following the reforms to CFIUS — the Committee […]

Trump set aside time during press conference with Theresa May to insult CNN, naturally

TwitterFacebook

Different continent, same old CNN-hating Trump.

On Friday, the U.S. president upheld his vendetta against CNN when he denied a question from Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta, and instead devoted a good 20 seconds during his UK press conference with Prime Minister Theresa May to calling the media company “fake news.”

“Since you attacked CNN can I ask you a question?” Acosta can be heard asking during the question-and-answer portion of the presser.

“No. No… CNN is fake news I don’t take questions — I don’t take questions from CNN. CNN is fake news I don’t take questions from CNN,” Trump said into the microphone. Read more…

Uber’s wrongs show we need better workers’ rights, says UK PM

A backhanded compliment for Uber snuck into UK prime minister Theresa May’s speech to the World Economy Forum in Davos this afternoon — when she said the company’s behavior had made the case for laws being strengthened to stop gig economy workers from being exploited by overly powerful tech platforms.  Read More
