It’s Villain Week here at Mashable. In honor of the release of Venom, we’re celebrating all our favorite evildoers from film and TV all week long. Spooky, scary!


We’re all in on onscreen villains, but their backstories don’t always turn out so compelling. So it goes in pop culture, when ever-expanding franchises, sequels, and reboots build out entire plot lines and character traits we never wanted or needed. 

A little mystery can go a long way in a villain-driven franchise (related: we are terrified for the Joker movies), but the names on this list were ruined with too much background. Read more…

Doctor dressed like The Joker delivers a baby and nightmares

On a dark night — err, knight? — a baby entered the world into the hands of the Joker. 

Dr. Paul Locus, an OB at the Henry County Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, didn’t let work impede his Halloween fun. Locus had dressed like the Heath Ledger version of The Joker, and opted to stay in character to deliver Justin and Brittany Selph’s baby daughter, Oaklyn.

We’ll just assume he said “why so serious” once the baby started crying because if you’re going full-on Halloween you have to go full-on.

Sure, little Oaklyn could grow up with a petrifying anxiety about scalpel-wielding, green-haired comic book villains, but who doesn’t suffer that fear really?  Read more…
