YouTubers Zac and Jay of The Zac and Jay Show decided to challenge themselves by turning their friend Max into a model overnight. 

“This is the story of how we got our unfashionable mate to the top of London Fashion Week wearing the worst outfit we could find,” they said at the top of their video released on Wednesday.

On the night of July 11, 2018, YouTuber AL3XEITOR uploaded a creepy new video for his audience of nearly one million subscribers. 

In the video, the creator holds up his phone to the camera and shows viewers a scary image of a half-woman, half-bird hybrid creature displayed on the screen. The YouTuber claims he’s trying to contact this being. Numerous messages are sent. A phone call is made. Ten minutes go by. Nothing happens. This video goes on to rack up over 5.5 million views, AL3XEITOR’s most popular since he first started uploading to YouTube four years ago. T-Series finally surpassed PewDiePie in YouTube subscribers and barely anyone noticed

A new “most-subscribed” channel was finally crowned on YouTube, albeit briefly.

After a nearly half-year long race, internet personality PewDiePie has finally been dethroned as YouTube’s most subscribed channel by Bollywood music video channel T-Series. The video production company surpassed the YouTuber in subscribers for the very first time on Friday, Feb. 22. 

However, the India-based T-Series’ reign as the new “most-subscribed” channel on YouTube didn’t last for very long.

“For roughly 8 minutes, as a result of a YouTube audit, T-Series was ahead of PewDiePie (by a max of about 2000 [subscribers]),” a spokesperson with the social media analytics company SocialBlade confirmed in a statement to Mashable. Read more…

YouTube pulls advertising from anti-vaccination videos

YouTube said Friday that it would pull advertising from videos that espouse anti-vaccination conspiracy theories, according to BuzzFeed. The action contributes to a growing trend of social media companies taking action to combat the spread of vaccine misinformation online.

Social media companies, including Facebook and YouTube, have recently been facing pressure to get better at this, following inquiries from media and calls from lawmakers. The World Health Organization recently categorized “vaccine hesitancy” as one of 2019’s top threats to global health. 

The US is experiencing a measles outbreak — a previously near-eradicated disease — that’s affecting unvaccinated children. Social media has played a significant role in proliferating the false conspiracy that vaccines can cause autism. Read more…
