‘SNL’ Weekend Update gets real about Al Franken, Roy Moore, and sexual misconduct

TwitterFacebook

Saturday Night Live might have badly dropped the ball at one point this week, but the latest episode’s Weekend Update sketch delivered, at least.

The usual rapid-fire barrage of one-liners from hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost touched on the news of the day — Jerusalem, Donald Trump’s health, a looming possible government shutdown — but the sketch really landed when Cecily Strong arrived to talk about sexual misconduct in Washington, D.C.’s halls of power.

Strong’s “Cathy Anne,” a hard-drinking, drug-abusing political junkie (“and a regular junkie”), delivers a pointed, frequently crass summation of the dichotomy between now-former Senator Al Franken’s recent resignation and Roy Moore’s near-certain Congressional election win in Alabama on Dec. 12.  Read more…

Stephen Colbert slams Al Franken for latest sexual misconduct allegation

TwitterFacebook

Stephen Colbert slammed Al Franken again on Wednesday night after the Minnesota senator denied charges of sexual misconduct.

“It seems like every day a new man is being accused of sexual misconduct. But not today. Today it’s the same man,” said Colbert in his opening monologue on The Late Show.

Franken has been accused by a former Democratic congressional aide of trying to forcibly kiss her in 2006, after a taping of his radio show. According to POLITICO, the aide says Franken “pursued her after her boss had left the studio … The former staffer said she ducked to avoid Franken’s lips. As she hastily left the room, she said, Franken told her: ‘It’s my right as an entertainer.'” Read more…

Female senators lead the way in calling for Al Franken’s resignation on Twitter

TwitterFacebook

After weeks of murmurs on Capitol Hill about Sen. Al Franken’s future in politics amid allegations of sexual misconduct, several senators have made their message loud and clear— Franken must go.

Politico reported Wednesday morning that a former congressional aide says Franken tried to forcibly kiss her after a taping of his radio show in 2006, adding to the six existing allegations against the current Minnesota senator.

Although Franken denied this new allegation, many Democratic senators took to Twitter to call for his resignation. And as with many other recent efforts to call out inappropriate male behavior, the women led the way.  Read more…

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic is protecting his good name from other, terrible Als

TwitterFacebook

You have been officially warned: do not come for “Weird Al” Yankovic, especially if you’re attempting to come for other Als.

The parody master has officially distanced himself from the likes of Al Franken, Al Pacino, and other Als when Yankovic filed a trademark application for his stage name “Weird Al” earlier this year. Just last week the move was officially approved—right on time, too, considering the sexual assault allegations that have circled Franken recently.

If you really feel compelled to insult Franken, Sharpton, Gore, Roker, or Pacino… PLEASE CHOOSE A DIFFERENT NICKNAMEpic.twitter.com/RTfTTQaWkE
