The New York jazz band bringing back cartoon music

TwitterFacebook

The day Joel Pierson, also known as the ‘piano doctor,’ moved to New York in 2014 was the day his wife told him she was pregnant (Yipe!). Pierson, a jazz musician, who was out of work and out of the music scene, resorted to a list of “harebrained ideas” he had been carefully compiling, for a fresh musical start. It was that or a different career altogether.

“As I was running through the list, I was like, ‘a jazz band playing cartoon music, who’s done that,’” Pierson told me as we sat around a secluded (vewy, vewy quiet) table at the New York Hilton Midtown, where his band, The Queen’s Cartoonists, were about to showcase some of their repertoire – ranging from renditions of early Popeye and Looney Tunes to cult classics like Bambi Meets Godzilla – at an Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) conference. A brilliant artist reimagined characters from ‘The Office’ as cartoons

TwitterFacebook

FACT: The Office will never die.

Sure, the NBC comedy ended in 2013, but the show’s beloved characters will live on in our hearts, minds, and apparently sketchpads forever.

The latest tribute to the Dunder Mifflin crew comes from Marisa Livingston, a Los Angeles artist who transformed Michael Scott and the gang into some of the most perfect cartoon characters we’ve ever seen.

This 18-year-old cartoonist promotes positivity through a genderless, pink bean

TwitterFacebook

Harry Hambley from Cardiff is only 18, but he’s something of an Instagram sensation.

In June 2016, Hambley put up his first cartoon on Instagram.

U found me 🐉 #no1

Hambley is the artist behind the webcomic Ketnipz. It’s an odd name for a comic, and purposefully devoid of meaning.

“The name doesn’t really mean much, except that it sounds fun and that it’s a lot different from typical titles,” Hambley told Mashable. “It’s purposely ambiguous, so that it doesn’t get associated with anything in particular — meaning I can keep using it when I decide to explore different creative fields or ideas.” Read more…

Cartoon character Snagglepuss has his own comic, and he’s officially gay

TwitterFacebook

After years of speculation, it’s finally been confirmed: The classic and beloved cartoon star Snagglepuss is officially gay.

This may come as a shock to some, if they haven’t really looked into the life of the big, pink mountain lion who pals around with Huckleberry Hound & Co., but those in his inner circle have known for a very long time.

Mark Russell, who is writing a new DC comic book series based on Snagglepuss’s life — Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles is available January 3 —  delivers a pretty clear picture of what’s going on here. “Lila Lion is his beard, and he does have a boyfriend in his private life.” Read more…
