UK police release airport drone suspects and admit there may not have been any drones after all

Less than a week after mystery drones grounded flights at the U.K.’s second largest airport, wreaking havoc on as many as 140,000 people’s travel plans for the Christmas period, police have admitted that there may in fact not have been any drones at all. 5 Danish holiday traditions to make Christmas last a whole month

TwitterFacebook

When my mother recently came over from Denmark to visit me in London, she had with her 24 numbered, individually wrapped presents.

They’re just small things and trinkets, I can tell from squeezing the parcels. And I know, because she’s given me a set of 24 presents like these every year for many years. She took over the task  from the nisse, a goblin-like creature from Danish folklore. Until I reached my teenage years and lost my ability to suspend disbelief, it was the nisse who laid out a present for me each morning in December (so nice of my mother to relieve the poor creature of his duty.) These little gifts are called kalendergaver, or calendar presents. Read more…

Christmas ‘Carpool Karaoke’ is here to get you in the festive spirit

TwitterFacebook

It must have felt pretty weird for Christina Aguilera when she had to sing a rendition of Darlene Love’s “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” in a car with James Corden back in April. But hey — at least the end result was worth it.

In the medley above, we cut between Carpool Karaoke guests who appeared on The Late Late Show throughout 2018.

The only one to dress up is Michael Bublé, but that doesn’t stop the whole thing feeling splendidly festive. Read more…

Now you can listen to that ‘Spider-Verse’ Christmas bop

TwitterFacebook

Ever since the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, we can confirm: Nothing says Christmas like Spider-Man.

Now you can finally listen to Spider-Man’s promotional single “Spidey-Bells” from the movie soundtrack – a song our friendly neighborhood hero made as a marketing gimmick and goes on to quickly regret.

The track starts out merrily enough, with Spider-Man (Chris Pine) belting a cover of “Jingle Bells” celebrating New York and crime-fighting during the holiday season.

It doesn’t take long, however, for the adult Peter Parker to look inward at his life and choices, to wonder what could have driven him to be a full-time vigilante when he has so many other talents. Read more…

Barack Obama dressed as Santa to surprise kids at a children’s hospital

TwitterFacebook

‘Tis the season to watch the former president of the United States be cute as hell, apparently.

Barack Obama spent Wednesday donning a Santa hat and spreading holiday cheer while handing out presents at Washington’s Children’s National hospital.

Footage shared by the hospital on Twitter shows an excited crowd singing carols, cheering for, and taking photos of Obama Claus in the hallway. The former POTUS greets patients with presents, dances into rooms, and even gives out some hugs.

Thank you @BarackObama for making our patients’ day so much brighter. Your surprise warmed our hallways and put smiles on everyone’s faces! Our patients loved your company…and your gifts! https://t.co/bswxSrA4sQ ❤️ #HolidaysAtChildrens #ObamaAndKids pic.twitter.com/qii53UbSRS

40 easy (and free) ways to feel festive this holiday season

TwitterFacebook

There’s a lot of pressure around the holiday season. It’s full of things for which it’s easy to have overblown expectations — New Year’s Eve, for example, and the unintentional friendship quality metric known as “giving gifts.” Not helping: the state of the world, which is bad.

It’s understandable, then, if you’re not feeling particularly festive. This year, I’ve struggled to get into the holiday spirit (whatever that is) and my lack of excitement is matched only by my guilt for its absence. It’s Christmas! What, within my extremely limited budget (zero dollars), can I do to feel more … holiday-ish? Read more…
