Photos on social media can predict the health of neighborhoods

The images that appear on social media – happy people eating, cultural happenings, and smiling dogs – can actually predict the likelihood that a neighborhood is “healthy” as well as its level of gentrification. From the report: So says a groundbreaking study published in Frontiers in Physics, in which researchers used social media images of […]

Man’s attempt to take panorama of dog goes horribly, horribly wrong

TwitterFacebook

Dogs and panorama photos are both glorious things in their own right. But combining the two together can sometimes be like flying too close to the sun.

The idea may seem pleasant, but the reality is potentially nightmarish.

Earlier this week, Twitter user @bulletsmikey found this out first hand:

I regret trying to take a cute panorama of my dog pic.twitter.com/Sz2dW35XnQ

Oh dear.

For reference, here is the dog in his normal form:

Someone found a ‘lost dog’ in the most ridiculous place

TwitterFacebook

Not all heroes wear capes — some upload photos with really jarring moiré effects to Reddit.

Reddit User HamboneB shared a story on Wednesday about how he’d been called “a hero” for returning a lost dog to its owner. The thing is, it wasn’t that hard to find.

The photo was apparently taken off the user’s computer, they explained in the comments.

“It’s right outside of Augusta, Ga. in a little town called Thomson,” wrote the OP. “I took a screenshot of the photo that I took to make it the most recent photo on my phone and tried to zoom and edit it some. I did a pretty shitty job I guess and realize now I messed up on the angle as well.” Read more…

Here’s why you shouldn’t (always) laugh at dogs in strollers

TwitterFacebook

Congratulations! You’ve made it all the way past the headline of this story, which very likely made you livid. Now, bear with me while I try to explain.

Fact: Seeing a dog in a stroller is almost always a hilarious sight. But not all dogs deserve your mockery. Nor do their owners. Some dogs genuinely needs to sit in a stroller (wait before you comment) and might require something else — your empathy.

Like many of you, there was once a period in my life where nothing made me laugh harder than seeing a dog in its own stroller. Clearly, strollers were made for human babies, not pampered dogs. I felt justifiably so superior to these privileged dog owners and their waifish, terrible dogs. My family dog came from the school of hard knocks, and was forced to walk the streets using her own goddamn paws. She didn’t wear booties in the winter. She just did it raw. Read more…

Everyone needs a reminder about the important things in life, and this body cam footage does just that

In Virginia, a cop returned to a burning house after a couple was rescued upon hearing there was a dog inside. Fires can be devastating for families, and in this case, no one was harmed or injured, but their cares and home were destroyed. The couple h…

Dog being taken away by police shows absolutely no remorse

TwitterFacebook

When a dog gets taken away by the police, I feel conflicted.

On the one hand, it’s sad to see a pup that has made such bad decisions in life, but on the other hand, the pictures are always great.

Emme Thompson posted a photo Saturday of her dog being taken away by a cop for running away and attacking a deer. Wow, dog.

And yet, you have to admit the face he’s making is priceless.

someone called the police on my dog because he ran away and attacked a deer and i know this is serious but the sight of him in the cop car i’m alskdjfhsgh 😂😂😭😭 pic.twitter.com/czZqzzc3x3
