Emojipedia introduced Astro Cat on Thursday. You make it by combining the the 🐱 Cat Face and 🚀 Rocket emojis, joining them using the “zero width joiner.” That’s an invisible character used in emoji sequences to create a new character — such as Astro Cat.

Here’s a hot tip: If you vote in one of those emoji slider polls your friends may be posting to Instagram Stories — to gauge how cute a dog is, say — your friends will absolutely be notified of your answer.

Google’s salad emoji is now egg-free, and more inclusive for vegans.
This is according to Google UX Manager at Expression design team Jennifer Daniel, who tweeted about the change Wednesday, but likely didn’t expect the amount of attention she got.
“There’s big talk about inclusion and diversity at Google so if you need any evidence of Google is making this priority may I direct your attention to the 🥗 emoji— we’ve removed the egg in Android P beta 2, making this a more inclusive vegan salad,” Daniel wrote.
The tweet was accompanied by an image of said salad emoji, which consisted of lettuce, tomatoes and egg before, but now the egg is gone. Read more…

How hot is the newest Instagram feature going to be? You’ll have to ask your friends on the app to weigh in — and now, you can.
Instagram announced a new interactive story feature today called “Emoji Slider.” It’s a sticker that story posters can put on photos or videos, and allows their followers to answer questions using an emoji that slides along a scale.
Emoji Slider is similar to the polling sticker, but allows for a wider range of responses.
This is gonna be yuge.

Cross-platform consistency, and gun sense, has taken hold in the emoji universe.
Microsoft announced on Friday that it will be switching its gun emoji to a water pistol. The change came two days after Google rolled out an update that replaced its gun emoji with the colorful water pistol toy. Facebook also confirmed to Emojipedia on the day of the Google update that it was in the process of making the switch, too.
So now, with Microsoft’s switch, all major platforms have abandoned gun emojis in favor of water pistols.
