DJI gets serious about aerial video with Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom drones

TwitterFacebook

DJI has gone drone crazy.

The leading drone maker announced not one, but two new powerful, foldable consumer drones — the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom — at a special event at the Brooklyn Navy Yards in New York City.

Unlike the Mavic Air, released earlier this year, which touted its ultra-compact design, the two new Mavic 2 drones are all about performance: They’re faster, quieter, smarter, safer, fly longer, and capture more impressive aerial footage than the original Mavic Pro.

First and foremost, the new drones have improved cameras. The Mavic 2 Pro has a 1-inch CMOS sensor made by renowned camera company Hasselblad. With an adjustable f/2.8-f/11 aperture, the drone’s camera is more versatile for shooting in more conditions, especially low-light situations where the larger aperture (smaller f-stop number) comes in handy. Android 9 Pie’s is a no-brainer update, but the best is yet to come

TwitterFacebook

Android 9 Pie is now available, but should you update ASAP?

If you’ve got a Google Pixel, Pixel 2, or Essential Phone  – the answer is yes. It’s a no-brainer update.

Sucks if you don’t own one of these phones, though, because you’ll have to wait until later this year before you can get your Pie on.

The wait should be shorter this time compared to previous Android releases because more devices have supported the release’s beta. But ultimately, it’s up to device makers to decide when they want to release Pie for their devices. Read more…

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S4 is an Android tablet that becomes a pseudo-laptop when you need it

Samsung finally has a proper competitor to Apple’s 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and it’s called the Galaxy Tab S4.
The successor to the Galaxy S3 tablet has a larger screen, longer battery life, and four speakers for louder sound, but it’s most important feat…

Apple upgrades the MacBook Pro, but ignores the elephant in the room

TwitterFacebook

Apple just unveiled a new MacBook Pro. And I’ve got some good news and some bad news.

Bad news first: Apple has done practically nothing to address the major concerns about the current MacBook Pro design that debuted in October 2016. There’s still a questionably practical Touch Bar in place of the function row. The laptop still relies solely on four USB-C ports and a headphone jack for connectivity. And the butterfly keyboard — which many consider a step down from the previous “chiclet” design and can often be notoriously inconvenient to repair — is still there (although Apple made it slightly quieter). Microsoft’s $399 Surface Go is here to nuke Apple’s iPad

TwitterFacebook

Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on youMicrosoft’s new Surface Go really is a shrunken version of its popular Surface Pro.

The 10-inch Surface Go is Microsoft’s smallest, thinnest, and lightest Surface tablet to date. And with a starting price of $399, the Go is also the cheapest Surface as well.

A Surface RT (remember that disastrous tablet?) the Go is not. This mini Surface runs Windows 10 in its entirety and all x86 apps.

My first thought after a Microsoft executive pulled the Go out of her purse wasn’t, “Oh, that’s really small” but “Why?” Why would anyone need a mini Surface Pro? And it really is a smaller version of the 2-in-1 — hinge, keyboard cover, stylus, and all. Read more…

Apple macOS Mojave preview: Come for the Dark Mode, stay for the taste of iOS

TwitterFacebook

This was supposed to be a “bye” year for Apple, one where the software teams would concentrate on stability and speed, with less pressure to make big moves or introduce new features.

While that may be true to some extent for iOS 12, it looks like the macOS team didn’t get the memo. After checking out the beta of macOS 10.14 Mojave, it definitely feels like big changes are coming to the Mac. Some, like Dark Mode, are mostly cosmetic. But others, like the first generation of iOS-based apps made for macOS, are pointing the way for where the Mac is going, and why reports of its coming demise are greatly exaggerated. Read more…

The LG G7 ThinQ is a rock-solid Android flagship you probably won’t buy

TwitterFacebook

Quick show of hands: Any LG fans still out there?

If you raised your hand, then you might be interested in the company’s latest flagship Android phone, the G7 ThinQ.

It’s no secret LG is struggling to sell phones. Like, really struggling. Both its G5 and G6 flagship phones from the last two years have failed to put a dent in Samsung and Apple’s mobile empire (Samsung moves the most units, and Apple gets the most profits — each by far). All the while Chinese brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, and OnePlus continue their ascent.

Weakening phone sales aside, the Korean electronics giant’s G7 ThinQ (the name’s just as terrible as the V30 ThinQ) appears to be yet another rock-solid phone that might not move the needle. I got a chance to get my hands on LG’s latest flagship, and it definitely has some features that make it stand out. Read more…
