Iceland gets away with killing dozens of huge, endangered whales. Here’s why.

Icelandic whalers have spent much of July ripping back the skin of 65-foot long endangered fin whales in preparation to butcher their meat. 

Earlier this month, the commercial whaling company, Hvalur hf, may have also captured and skinned an endangered blue whale — the largest creature ever known to live on Earth — according to photographs from the ocean conservation and vigilante group Sea Shepherd.

Most every nation has prohibited killing whales, creatures whose populations were decimated by ruthless whaling practices in the 1800sInternational treaties also prohibit the antiquated practice, yet a few nations — Iceland, Japan, and Norway — have found legal rationals for hunting whales. In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a very famous penis museum in Iceland.

The Phallological Museum, as it’s officially known, is situated in northwest Reykjavík. Apparently it’s not the easiest place to find, though.

If you find yourself looking at this bluntly worded sign, for instance, you’re definitely in the wrong place.

Bitcoin enthusiasts take innovative approach, steal 600 computers

Mining for cryptocurrency can be an expensive proposition — albeit less so if you just go ahead and steal 600 powerful computers to do it for you. 

That is exactly what 11 people are accused of doing in Iceland, after a large number of specialized computers were boosted in December and January from data centers in the island nation. So reports NBC News, which notes that while authorities have identified and arrested the individuals they believe to be responsible for the heist, the computers themselves are still unaccounted for.
