No one was prouder of Jordan Peele’s Oscar win than Keegan-Michael Key

Find yourself a friend who loves you this much.

Jordan Peele had a historic moment last night when he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his debut solo film, Get Out.

He became the first African-American screenwriter to win this category—and no one was prouder of him than his old Key and Peele partner, Keegan-Michael Key.

Key and Peele were the creators of the aptly titled sketch comedy series that ran on Comedy Central for five seasons, from 2012 to 2015.

Key was absolutely thrilled to see his “partner in laughs” snag his first Oscar. Read more…

Jordan Peele just became an Oscar winner.

The Academy has awarded Peele this year’s Best Original Screenplay prize for Get Out. He’s the fourth African-American writer ever nominated in the category, and the first one ever to win.

Needless to say, people are pretty psyched about it.

‘The Emoji Movie’ made ‘Get Out’ director Jordan Peele decide to quit acting

Apparently, Patrick Stewart’s dignity wasn’t the only loss in 2017’s The Emoji Movie. You can also thank the shameless cash-grab for Jordan Peele’s early retirement from acting.
In January, the Get Out director and Key & Peele co-creator announce…

Jordan Peele’s tweets following ‘Get Out’ nominations are solid gold

To be fair, four nominations is pretty huge.

Jordan Peele was apparently overwhelmed Tuesday when his film Get Out received four Oscar nominations — among them a nomination for himself as director.

After hearing the news Peele called the star of the film, Daniel Kaluuya.

I just spoke to Daniel. You know when you’re on the phone trying to disguise the sound of an ugly cry? I failed at that.

‘Get Out’ director Jordan Peele says he’s done with the acting game

TwitterFacebook

Well Get Out fans, we’ve got some bad news — and some good news.

First, let’s start with the bad news: In a preview for his CBS Sunday Morning interview with Tracy Smith, the comedian and Get Out director announced he was done with acting.

“That’s the idea… Daniel Day-Lewis and I are both out,” he said, referring to the legendary actor claiming that The Phantom Thread would (allegedly) be his last film. “Acting is just nowhere near as fun for me as directing.”

To be fair, though, if Peele really was modeling his acting retirement off of Day-Lewis, that’d mean we’d see him in about half a dozen more roles claiming to be his “final” one. Read more…

‘Get Out’ inspires a college course taught around the horror film

TwitterFacebook

If you are one of the many folks rightfully upset about Get Out being shut out of the Golden Globes last night, keep reading.

A college course on black horror films, through the lens of 2017’s box office shattering film Get Out, will be kicking off at UCLA this week. However, if you’re not a student there, you can still get in on the same lectures that Jordan Peele himself snuck into last year and learn a whole lot more about the critically acclaimed film and the overlooked genre of black horror.

Not a UCLA student? Take my non-credit, online #blackhorror webinar The Sunken Place w/@StevenBarnes1. Six lectures live or on your own schedule starting 1/13. Send your questions for @JordanPeele! ‘Get Out’ is the best rated movie of 2017

TwitterFacebook

The best-rated movie of 2017 was a comedy, horror, or documentary – depending on how you look at it. Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out was the highest rated film of the year on Rotten Tomatoes, with a steadfast 99% from critics and 87% from audiences.

The film released in February, early enough in the calendar year and almost as early as possible in the Oscar year that it could have fallen into obscurity by summer – but it stayed. Many didn’t know what to make of the jarring trailer, but it piqued interest.

When the film released, it was to an unprecedented perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences had sold out theaters to experience it themselves. Read more…

CBS All Access orders ‘The Twilight Zone’ revival from Jordan Peele

TwitterFacebook

Prepare to reenter The Twilight Zone (although most days it feels like we never left).

CBS All Access is reviving the beloved sci-fi anthology series with Get Out helmer Jordan Peele, X-Men movie producer Simon Kinberg and Daredevil showrunner Marco Ramirez, who will executive produce the reboot and collaborate on the premiere episode.

“Too many times this year it’s felt we were living in a twilight zone, and I can’t think of a better moment to reintroduce it to modern audiences,” said Peele in a statement.

The Twilight Zone was a touchstone in my life,” added Kinberg. “The opportunity to continue its lineage is a dream come true, and I’m so thrilled to be doing it with Jordan, Marco and the team at CBS All Access.” Read more…

Is ‘Get Out’ a comedy? The Golden Globes think so

TwitterFacebook

Get Out was a lot of things: a tense thriller, a biting social commentary, an incredible directorial debut for Jordan Peele, a breakthrough for lead actor Daniel Kaluuya.

But was it a comedy?

As far as the Golden Globes are concerned, yes. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association determined this week that Get Out will compete in the “musical or comedy” categories for the upcoming awards.

The designation left some people – including one of the film’s stars – scratching their heads.

But if I can be honest this is weird to me… Their is nothing funny about racism… Was it that unrealistic lol https://t.co/5xSXBmatfP
