New ‘Black Panther’ TV spot has a special treat for Kendrick Lamar fans

Kendrick Lamar didn’t diss Donald Trump during halftime of the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday night like some fans thought he would.

But he did introduce a new TV spot for Marvel’s Black Panther. There’s not a ton of new footage here; it mostly just adds emphasis on the conflict between Chad Boseman and Michael B. Jordan’s characters.

Still, any footage — and music from Kendrick — is still pretty exciting. (He’s actually helping put the soundtrack together.) The movie drops on Feb. 16, and you can pre-order tickets starting todayRead more…

‘The Punisher’ boss talks Season 2 plans and Frank’s surprising journey

TwitterFacebook

The Punisher was an unexpected addition to Marvel and Netflix’s superhero roster, which was initially designed to spotlight Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, before bringing the “street-level” heroes together for The Defenders

But the gun-toting antihero made such a splash in Season 2 of Daredevil, thanks to Jon Bernthal’s layered performance, it seemed like a no-brainer to spin Frank Castle off into his own series, which was recently renewed for Season 2

Mashable spoke to showrunner Steve Lightfoot — who previously worked on Hannibal and Narcos — about bringing Marvel’s darkest hero to the small screen for Netflix. Read more…

TwitterFacebook

Well, it’s here.

Marvel rocked the world today with the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, which crams together just about every MCU superhero you can think of in an enormous battle against a villain we first met two Phases ago.

It’s a lot to take in (new facial hair! New costumes! New characters! New sky portals!) but now that we’ve had a moment to process, we gotta say – we’re still left with a whole bunch of questions. Like… Read more…

It’s time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to start killing off its heroes

TwitterFacebook

There’s another Avengers movie on the horizon, and you know what that means: It’s time for another round of PR-friendly promises about how this will be the ultimate Avengers movie, the one that brings all the ongoing storylines to a head and leaves the MCU forever changed.

But what if this time, it actually is?

In a sprawling Vanity Fair profile, Kevin Feige dramatically declares that Avengers 4 (shooting now for release in 2019) will “bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale.” According to the publication, that means at least “some” of the original Avengers will be phased out after Avengers 4. A scientific deep dive into the Marvel movies’ most hilarious trope: the shirtless scene

TwitterFacebook

Whether it’s Iron Man fiddling with his arc reactor or Star-Lord getting hosed down, you can almost always count on the hero of any given Marvel movie to lose his shirt — it’s practically a trope.

At this point —17 films and nine years into the Marvel Cinematic Universe — the “shirtless superhero” scene is up there with Stan Lee cameos, post-credits scenes, and 30something blond men named Chris in terms of reliable franchise staples.

Such serious commitment on Marvel’s part, then, would seem to warrant some serious analysis on our part. And we do mean “serious.” This isn’t just an excuse for bald-faced objectification — goodness, no.  Read more…
