Tom Hanks will be playing Mister Rogers in the upcoming biopic titled You Are My Friend, and seeing him in that iconic red cardigan and blue sneakers is heartwarming. Take a look:

You Are My Friend, which is slated to come out in October 2019, is inspired by the life of Fred Rogers, the inspirational and inimitable host of the children’s TV show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Specifically, the biopic will look at Rogers’ relationship with journalist Tom Junod, who wrote a profile of Rogers for Esquire in 1998. Read more…

Remember that time time Fox News said Mister Rogers was ‘evil’?

“This evil, evil man has now ruined a generation of kids.”

That’s how the folks of Fox and Friends once described Mister Rogers. 

In a 2007 clip from the show, the show hosts go on a tirade claiming the man behind Mister Rogers Neighborhood managed to “discount” hard work by telling children that they were special, and have therefore “ruined” kids by making them entitled. Their bold commentary has resurfaced following the critically acclaimed release of Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

Considering the positive impact that Rogers had on children who grew up watching his public television show, it’s an amusing smear campaign to watch years later — and thankfully, it hasn’t hurt his legacy one bit. Read more…

Television has introduced us to a series of unforgettable neighbors, from Boy Meets World‘s Mr. Feeny to Sister, Sister‘s pesky Roger.

But there is perhaps no television neighbor more iconic than Mister Rogers from PBS’ Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.

The daily educational program for children debuted on PBS in 1968, after two smaller runs — in 1963 with Misterogers on the Canadian Broadcast Corporation, and in 1966 with Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood on the Eastern Educational Network. Every day the titular character, played by Fred Rogers, would get home from work, put on a cardigan and sneakers, and talk to his neighbors, delivering lessons on friendship, love, kindness, acceptance, and more.
