Lime tries to back-peddle on VP’s line on why it hired Definers

Scooter startup Lime has sought to back peddle on an explanation given by its VP of global expansion late last week when asked why it had hired the controversial PR firm, Definers Public Affairs. The opposition research firm, which has ties to the Republican Party, has been at the center of a reputation storm for Facebook, […]

This is what Americans think about the state of election security right now

A wide-ranging new poll yields some useful insight into how worried the average American feels about election threats as the country barrels toward midterms. The survey, conducted by NPR and researchers with Marist College, polled 949 adult US residents in early September across regions of the country, contacting participants through both landlines and mobile devices. The […]

People are threatening to boycott In-N-Out after large donation to Republican party

TwitterFacebook

Despite its California roots, In-N-Out is far from liberal.

On Wednesday, journalist Gabe Schneider uncovered a contribution of $25,000 that the famous California-based fast food chain made to the California Republican Party just this week — and it’s safe to say that some folks were not happy to learn about the political leanings of their family owned go-to burger joint.

Schneider shared a document on Twitter that details the company’s contributions, which were filed on August 28. While many on Twitter stood in support of the burger chain because of their political beliefs, In-N-Out was called out by some customers. Read more…

Pro-Trump social media duo accuses Facebook of anti-conservative censorship

Following up on a recurring thread from Mark Zuckerberg’s congressional appearance earlier this month, the House held a hearing today on perceived bias against conservatives on Facebook and other social platforms. The hearing, ostensibly about “how social media companies filter content on their platforms,” focused on the anecdotal accounts of social media stars Diamond and […]

Mitt Romney changed his location on Twitter, and that’s bad news for Donald Trump

TwitterFacebook

Normally, changing the location in your Twitter bio is no big deal.

But this is different. Mitt Romney changed his location from “Massachusetts” to “Holladay, Utah” on the same day that Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch announced he would retire at the end of the year, according to Bloomberg reporter Sahil Kapur.

Why should we care? It’s been long rumored that Romney — the former governor of Massachusetts and Republican presidential candidate in 2012 — would run for the open Utah seat if Hatch retired.  Read more…

Trump’s website is coded with a broken server error message that blames Obama

If you’re a fan of Easter eggs hidden in source code, this is a pretty good one. Apparently, as Washington Post data reporter Christopher Ingraham observed on Twitter, some Trump administration and GOP websites have a portion of code with a joke that throws shade at Obama’s golf habits, the irony nowhere to be found. Roy Moore lost the election and everyone made the same joke

TwitterFacebook

Roy Moore is bad at riding horses, and on Tuesday night, he was bad at winning elections.

Moore lost the Senate race in Alabama to Democrat Doug Jones and a lot of people were happy about it. Moore’s win came as a surprise, as Democrats haven’t fared well in Alabama elections for about a quarter decade.

But back to the horse thing. Here is the Republican candidate — who was endorsed by Donald Trump, even though he’s been accused of sexual misconduct by nine women and said America was last “great” when slavery was legal — trying to play cowboy earlier in the day.  Read more…

Outside of a Roy Moore rally, the father of a gay daughter lost to suicide speaks up

TwitterFacebook

Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore once said he thinks “homosexual conduct should be illegal.” He’s also said plenty of other racist and intolerant things — along with being accused of sexually assaulting teenage girls.

Well, one man wasn’t going to take it. Nathan Mathis, an Alabama farmer who lost his gay daughter to suicide, stood outside of Roy Moore’s rally on Monday night, and spoke out against the candidate’s homophobic comments.

Here’s the video, from Vaughn Hillyard of NBC News:

Father, who says he’s a local peanut farmer in Wicksburg, outside Roy Moore rally talks about losing his gay daughter at age of 23 to suicide. “I was anti-gay myself. I said bad things to my daughter, which I regret.” pic.twitter.com/J0oOU0EJI2
