Netflix’s Bird Box is inciting new outrage among viewers—and this time it has nothing to do with that dangerous viral challenge

The company has confirmed to Mashable that footage used in one of the film’s disaster scenes depicts the very real aftermath of a 2013 train derailment in Quebec, which resulted in a widespread fire that killed 47 people and destroyed much of the surrounding town of Lac-Mégantic.

The clip appears early in the film, as Malorie (Sandra Bullock) flips through TV channels portraying different scenes from the apocalypse. One briefly shows the silhouette of a train engulfed in flames. Read more…

Warning: Light spoilers for Bird Box lie ahead.

Welcome to Bird Box analysis, where the metaphors are made up and the points don’t matter!

Look. I like a return-to-English-class breakdown of a horror movie as much as the next gal—but this is getting ridiculous. Since Sandra Bullock’s Netflix debut, Bird Box, started streaming last Friday, folks have gone absolutely batshit trying to explain whatever happens to her and her kids in this post-apocalyptic nightmare.

What do the monsters represent? What do the blindfolds mean? How many grocery store parrots does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Etc., etc.  Read more…

Male actors probably don’t even take note of being part of an all-male cast. For actresses, though, its still a rare privilege — and Ocean’s 8 star Sandra Bullock thinks that’s a whole lotta bullshit.

In an interview with People, Bullock was asked about getting to work with the all-female cast of a lifetimeOcean’s 8 stars a true smorgasbord of the baddest ladies in entertainment: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Awkwafina, and none other than Rihanna herself.

What happens when you put eight scene-stealers in a room together?

Well, in the case of Ocean’s 8, they pull off the heist of the century at the star-studded Met Gala.

Sandra Bullock leads the cast as Debbie Ocean, sister of Danny Ocean (George Clooney’s character from Ocean’s 11 through 13), with Cate Blanchett as her right-hand woman.

The rest of the gang includes Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, and – last but certainly not least – Rihanna.

Frankly, that cast alone is enough to get us to the theater. But if you need a bit more convincing, check out the latest trailer above.  Read more…
