T.J. Miller denies ‘Silicon Valley’ bullying accusations

TwitterFacebook

Last month, Silicon Valley’s Alice Wetterlund — who played engineer Carla Walton — accused co-star T.J. Miller of being “a bully and petulant brat.”

Miller, who didn’t have the most glowing review of his on-set conduct by those behind the HBO show, denied Wetterlund’s claims on the Jim Norton & Sam Roberts show Wednesday.

“I play an asshole on TV, but I’m not a bully in real life, ever,” he told the radio show.

When asked about his relationship with Wetterland, Miller admitted that he “felt like it was difficult to work with her because she kept interrupting Zach Woods.” Read more…

Homeless man photographed handing out resumes lands job offers

TwitterFacebook

Over the weekend, a photo of out-of-work web developer went viral, resulting in a flurry of job offers.

The photo, which was tweeted by @jaysc0 on Friday, showed David Casarez standing on the side of the road in Mountain View, California, holding a placard telling people that he was homeless.

Despite his circumstances, Casarez didn’t ask for money, instead asking people to take copies of his resume.

Today I saw this young homeless man asking for people to take a resume rather than asking for money. If anyone in the Silicon Valley could help him out, that would be amazing. Please RT so we can help David out! pic.twitter.com/ewoE3PKFx7

‘Silicon Valley’ star accuses T.J. Miller of being ‘a bully’ on set

TwitterFacebook

Silicon Valley actress Alice Wetterlund has accused her former co-star T.J. Miller of being “a bully and petulant brat” on the set of the show in a series of tweets posted on Wednesday night.

Wetterlund, who appeared in the HBO series for two seasons in 2015-2016, also accused other male cast members of enabling his behaviour.

Yes! It is definitely time to rehabilitate TJ Miller’s career! We can’t afford to lose talent at a time like this, we need more—not less—comedic hijinks such as *checks notes* calling in a fake bomb threat

Company culture and importance of first impressions

First impressions count.

On this episode of “Masters of Scale,” entrepreneur Margaret Heffernan talks about how your company culture is reflected in the person people interact with first: your receptionist.

“If you want to build a strong culture, the first thing you have to do is open your eyes,” “Masters of Scale” host and LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman says to Heffernan. “You have to start observing your culture the instant you arrive at the office — as soon as you walk through the front door.” Read more…

How the ‘20% time’ rule led to Google’s most innovative products

TwitterFacebook

Did you know that some of the most iconic Google products start out as side products?

On this debut episode of “Masters of Scale,” former Google CEO Eric Schmidt discusses the company’s 20 percent time rule — a policy that allows employees to work on whatever they want for 20 percent of their time on the job. Not only does this policy inspire innovative projects, it also serves as a checks and balance system between unreasonable managers and reasonable employees.

“[It] empowers the employee with both dignity, but also some choices,” says Schmidt.  Read more…
