Star Wars fans have been waiting for a live-action TV show for so long, they never would have guessed that the announcement of its development by Disney would go barely noticed.
But that’s exactly what happened Thursday. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the company is working on a Star Wars TV drama to help launch its upcoming streaming service, just as CBS has used Star Trek Discovery to sell CBS All Access subscriptions — and the fact barely registered with Star Wars fandom. There’s going to be a brand new, non-Skywalker Star Wars trilogy

Even before The Last Jedi hits theaters, director Rian Johnson has a new Star Wars gig.
He’ll be producing the first ever Star Wars trilogy of movies that isn’t part of the Skywalker saga, Lucasfilm announced Thursday.
“Johnson will create a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which he is also set to write and direct,” read the announcement on StarWars.com.
“Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy,” Lucasfilm president Kathy Kennedy said.
Johnson added that Star Wars was “the greatest modern mythology” and that he was looking forward to developing it.
No further details were available on the subject of the new trilogy, though the announcement added that “no porgs were available for comment” — suggesting, perhaps, that we have seen the last of The Last Jedi‘s cutest critters. Read more…

As with all babies, we knew they were coming — but it’s still a shock when they arrived.
Porgs, those beloved `puffin-like creatures in The Last Jedi, will also be seen on screen in a baby version — and as of Wednesday we have our first look at them, above, thanks to a Japanese toy website.
“There’s a brief little moment in The Last Jedi where there’s a porg and then there’s a little baby porg next to the porg,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told Lucasfilm’s in-house Star Wars Show last week. “It doesn’t get better than that.” Read more…

With 38 days to go until The Last Jedi officially opens, Lucasfilm — and Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill — are setting their phasers to “troll.”
A new international poster advertising the IMAX 3D version of the movie consists of two giant panels. One has a white background and features characters and objects we think of as light side (Rey, Finn, Poe, Leia, Rose, the Millennium Falcon, a blue lightsaber); the other has a grey background and pro-First Order, Dark Side figures (Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, Star Destroyers, TIE fighters and a red lightsaber.)

No matter what else happens in The Last Jedi, we now know it contains the moment every fanboy and fangirl has been waiting to see for years: Luke Skywalker re-entering the Millennium Falcon.
The scene dropped Wednesday night in a re-edited version of last month’s first full trailer. Luke is seen walking into the famous Falcon cockpit, a place we haven’t seen him — shockingly — since the original 1977 Star Wars, latterly called A New Hope. (Yes, he came aboard the Falcon after falling down a giant tube in Cloud City, but not in anything more than a delirious state).

Or so promises Luke Skywalker in the latest Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer, which debuted during Game 7 of the MLB World Series.
The latest promo recycles a lot of familiar footage from the previous teasers — but it also mixes in some new bits. Like the one of Luke Skywalker on the Millennium Falcon for the first time in literally decades.
We’re not the only ones who got chills, right?
