Scientists found a new Earth-sized planet nearby…and it might be habitable

Forget Mars, scientists have discovered a new Earth-sized, possibly habitable, planet just eleven light years away. Known as Ross 128b, the newly discovered planet orbits a life friendly red dwarf star that is an estimated seven billion years old…

What do Star Wars fans want from Rian Johnson? More prequels!

TwitterFacebook

If you thought prequels were out of fashion when it came to Star Wars, think again. If the franchise’s most vocal fans have anything to do with it, we’ll soon be returning to the Republic — in the prequelest prequels that ever prequeled.

In the wake of Lucasfilm’s bombshell announcement last Thursday, that Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi) would direct a whole trilogy set in an entirely unexplored corner of Star Wars lore, naturally, fans set about discussing what kind of subjects Rian might think about covering.

EA’s ‘Star Wars’ PR disaster finally pushed gamers into open revolt against loot boxes

TwitterFacebook

It’s not even out yet, and Star Wars: Battlefront II is already a bad video game. Or if nothing else, it’s the public relations equivalent of the Chernobyl disaster.

Blame the loot boxes. Everyone knew they were a problem coming out of the public beta last month. Even publisher Electronic Arts acknowledged it — “We’ve listened to your feedback,” a post-beta update from DICE, the game’s developer, read — and pledged to fix the situation.

Battlefront II, loot boxes, and you

So here’s the simple(-ish) explanation for how things work now: The online multiplayer mode in Battlefront II is filled with things for you to unlock, including weapons, abilities, and cosmetics like emotes and victory poses. Those can all be earned randomly from loot boxes, which you purchase using one of two different kinds of currency. They can then be upgraded using a third form of currency. Read more…

A TV show! 3 new movies! Disney is giving us all the Star Wars and what is happening?

TwitterFacebook

Star Wars fans have been waiting for a live-action TV show for so long, they never would have guessed that the announcement of its development by Disney would go barely noticed.

But that’s exactly what happened Thursday. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the company is working on a Star Wars TV drama to help launch its upcoming streaming service, just as CBS has used Star Trek Discovery to sell CBS All Access subscriptions — and the fact barely registered with Star Wars fandom. Why?

First of all the news — revealed on a Disney investors call — happened to drop at the same time as Lucasfilm’s own huge reveal, and there’s reason to believe that timing was deliberate.  Read more…

There’s going to be a brand new, non-Skywalker Star Wars trilogy

TwitterFacebook

Even before The Last Jedi hits theaters, director Rian Johnson has a new Star Wars gig.

He’ll be producing the first ever Star Wars trilogy of movies that isn’t part of the Skywalker saga, Lucasfilm announced Thursday.

“Johnson will create a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which he is also set to write and direct,” read the announcement on StarWars.com.

“Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy,” Lucasfilm president Kathy Kennedy said.

Johnson added that Star Wars was “the greatest modern mythology” and that he was looking forward to developing it.

No further details were available on the subject of the new trilogy, though the announcement added that “no porgs were available for comment” — suggesting, perhaps, that we have seen the last of The Last Jedi‘s cutest critters.  Read more…
