‘Venom’ is hilarious, and I’m not entirely sure if it’s on purpose
It’s Villain Week here at Mashable. In honor of the release of Venom, we’re celebrating all our favorite evildoers from film and TV all week long. Spooky, scary!
The first act of Venom suggests we’re in for one of the worst films of 2018. Not in a fun way, mind you, but in that dull, dispiriting way where the lack of effort starts to feel like disrespect.
Then Venom gets his man and a movie that initially seemed just-plain-bad becomes so-bad-it’s-good. Or maybe it’s just plain good. It’s been a full day since I’ve seen it, and honestly, I’m still not sure. Either way, I laughed a lot.

Photo of Tom Hardy as Al Capone has to be seen to be believed
Infamous mob boss Al Capone has an iconic look, and somehow Tom Hardy is nailing it perfectly.
A recent picture of Hardy surfaced Wednesday that shows the actor in full Capone dress and makeup for his role as the gangster in the upcoming biographical movie Fonzo (which stems from Capone’s full first name, Alphonse — not to be confused with Alfonse).
It’s almost hard to believe that’s Hardy under there.

Oscar-nominated actors tend to go for transformation — but never quite like the one Tom Hardy went through to become an alien creature that’s all teeth, eyes, and goopy skin.
In an exclusive Entertainment Weekly first look at Sony’s upcoming Venom, we see the former Batman villain transform into the Spider-Man equivalent of Jekyll and Hyde. And if he’s being honest, Hardy knows that the repulsive, Xenomorph-on-crack appearance is part of what attracted him to the role.
“As far as Marvel characters, I have to say for me, Venom looks the coolest,” he told EW. “That sounds a bit shallow! But I appreciate that he has a kind of brazen swagger and a zero foxtrot attitude.” Read more…

Something sinister is coming in the first ‘Venom’ trailer
Sony’s next comic book franchise is ready for launch.
The studio has unveiled the first trailer for Venom, starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock.
The character is best known as a rival to Peter Parker and a nemesis to Spider-Man – you may recall that Topher Grace played him in Spider-Man 3. Here, though, he gets to take the lead, serving as more of an antihero than a villain.
Venom is in theaters October 5. Read more…

Back in 2016, Tom Hardy made an unusual promise.
He bet his Revenant co-star Leonardo DiCaprio that he wouldn’t win an Oscar for the film, and promised that if he did he’d get a tattoo of DiCaprio’s choosing.
Well, we all know how that one ended — and judging by a recent photo of Hardy shared on Instagram, it seems he’s finally kept his word.

Here’s your first look at Tom Hardy as Venom
Before he was bastardized along with everything else in Spider-Man 3, Venom was a pretty cool Marvel character – and Tom Hardy wants to bring that guy back with his new Venom film. The first image of Hardy in character as Eddie Brock is quiet and understated – but like Eddie himself, there’s something sharp beneath the surface.
The photo shows Hardy as Eddie Brock, pre-Venom suit, working as a reporter. As you zoom in, EW notes, you can see questions like “So how exactly does the Life Foundation go about testing its pharmaceuticals?” and “What about the allegations your empire is built on?” Whether or not you’ve read the comics, you can probably intuit that the answers to those questions won’t be good.
