Jokin’ Chuck Schumer trolls Trump with #BeBest hashtag

TwitterFacebook

Uncle Chuck Schumer always goes for the joke — and sometimes, despite all odds, lands one.

The senate majority leader had a particularly good burn today, after the president launched one of his extended, demanded rants about the Iran deal. In response, Schumer tweeted the hashtag from the First Lady’s anti-bullying campaign.

“Senator Cryin’ Chuck Schumer fought hard against the Bad Iran Deal, even going at it with President Obama, & then Voted AGAINST it!” President Trump wrote, continuing his long-standing tradition of erratic capitalization. “Now he says I should not have terminated the deal – but he doesn’t really believe that! Same with Comey. Thought he was terrible until I fired him!” Read more…

Tumblr accounts used for state-sponsored propaganda had perfectly dumb names

TwitterFacebook

You’re a smart cookie, and would never typically fall for state-sponsored disinformation online. However, and just bear with me here, what if it came from a Tumblr account with a really great name?

And by great, we of course mean so perfectly stupid that it defies belief.

Tumblr today published a list of users it claims “were engaged in state-sponsored disinformation and propaganda campaigns,” and the wonderful collection represents a funhouse mirror look at internet culture as interpreted by possible Russian trolls. Specifically, Tumblr tied some of the accounts in question to the Internet Research Agency — a Russian troll farm known for its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Read more…

Watching Stormy Daniels decimate trolls on Twitter is its own kind of porn

TwitterFacebook

Since Twitter won’t ban trolls outright, perhaps the best thing we can do is subject them to a more restorative punishment — Stormy Daniels’ Twitter wrath.

Daniels, the porn star who allegedly had an affair with Donald Trump, has made liberals happier than they’ve been in years with her recent round of threats against the trolls who come for her.

We thought we’d seen it all when Stormy came forward with carnal “Shark Week” details, but the performer has promised us a whole new jizzy chapter of revelations. Robert Mueller, please pick up the pace.

Little attention has been paid to one of Stormy’s lesser known gifts, her Twitter comebacks. They’re no pee tape, but they’re rich with orifice humor and GILF iconography.  Read more…

Look at these dumb email accounts Russian trolls made to influence the 2016 election

TwitterFacebook

We can’t say they didn’t have a sense of humor.

Today, the U.S. Justice Department brought detailed charges against the Russian Internet Research Agency for its attempts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election in favor of Donald Trump. With those charges,  we were gifted with a detailed look at the inner-workings of the Russian “troll farm” that has shaped our national discourse over the past year and a half — and it’s surprisingly funny.

The Russian group has been accused of creating social media accounts tied to fake persons and paying to promote their various pro-Trump shenanigans. To accomplish this, IRA employees obtained “fraudulent bank account numbers for the purpose of evading PayPal’s security measures.” Read more…

Russian trolls and bots take to Twitter following Florida school shooting

TwitterFacebook

Tragedy struck in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday, and Russian bots weren’t far behind.

As people took to Twitter in search of any scrap of information to emerge out of the school shooting that left 17 dead, they were likely confronted with what has become a troubling online reality: trolls and bots swarming a conversation for reasons unknown.

And according to Alliance for Securing Democracy, a group that claims to track “Russia-linked influence networks on Twitter,” a chunk of said trolls and bots attempting to shape the narrative surrounding the attack had ties to Russia.  Read more…

Ohio restaurant fired Nazi sympathizer after ‘NYT’ article. Now its Yelp page is caught in the crosshairs.

The 571 Grill & Draft House in New Carlisle, Ohio, has a pretty inconspicuous online presence. It’s been featured for its burgers on a local blog and its Yelp page had just a few reviews after four years on the restaurant review site.
But that’s …
