There’s now video of the gender reveal party that started a wildfire and it is really something

TwitterFacebook

Remember the infamous gender reveal party that went so wrong it sparked a massive wildfire? Well, video of it has finally been released, and it as gloriously idiotic as you’d expect.

The incident happened back in Arizona in April 2017, but now thanks to a Freedom of Information Act request from the Arizona Daily Star the video has been made public.

It begins as off-duty Border Patrol Agent Dennis Dickey shoots an explosive target to reveal the gender of the baby he and his wife were expecting. You can briefly see a cloud of blue — it’s a boy! — before the grass around the target quickly goes up in flames. Smart location choice, guys! Read more…

Intense videos show the Camp Fire ravaging Northern California

TwitterFacebook

The destructive Camp Fire has already burned over 18,000 acres of Butte County, Northern California as of Thursday afternoon, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Since starting at 6:30 a.m. PT just north of Sacramento, the fire is consuming 80 acres per minute photos show that smoke is already reaching the Bay Area about 150 miles away.

A combination of profoundly dry vegetation and heavy winds are contributing to the fire’s explosive pattern. Over the course of the day, evacuation orders were issued in Paradise, Concow, and Pulga, towns about 200 miles north of San Francisco.  Read more…

A wildfire in Ireland has uncovered a remarkable sight from World War II

TwitterFacebook

A Second World War-era sign has been rediscovered after a gorse fire ravaged a hillside on the east coast of Ireland.

The Irish Air Corps and Garda Air Support Unit spotted that a fire had exposed an old “Éire 8 sign” — a landmark dating back to World War — on Bray Head, in County Wicklow.

During the war, the word Éire — which means Ireland in the Irish language — was carved into 80 headlands around Ireland to warn allied and German bombers that they were flying over a neutral territory.

Western wildfires are so bad that they’re reversing decades of air quality improvements

TwitterFacebook

The consequences of America’s swelling wildfire problem are traveling well beyond blackened, ashy forests. They’re now tainting the air in cities and towns over vast regions of the western U.S.

Since the mid-1980s, fine bits of air pollution that have been repeatedly linked to heart and lung diseases have diminished in a good portion of the United States — except in an expansive zone of the western part of the country.

In this region, which extends north from Utah to Montana and west from Oregon to Wyoming, the most polluted days — when the air quality is at its most harmful — are getting even worse.  Read more…
