Senegal’s team easily has the best dance moves of the World Cup

TwitterFacebook

If you haven’t yet landed on who to root for during the World Cup, you should seriously consider getting behind Senegal.

Sure, the men of the Senegalese team have made headlines for their incredible performances during round one of the tournament. But more importantly, if their pre-game warmup dances tell us anything, they seem to be having the most fun.

A video of the team singing and dancing in unison on the soccer pitch before Sunday’s game against Japan went viral. It’s a short clip but it has already racked up over 2 million views — and it is easy to see why.  Read more…

Guy at World Cup lights his cigarette with a literal flaming wallet

TwitterFacebook

There’s something admirable about the fiery passion that World Cup fans have.

In some cases, it’s literal fire.

A fan at the World Cup lit his cigarette with a FLAMING WALLET. Yes, you read that right. He lit it with cigarette with a whole wallet that lights on fire

To quote the Fox Sports commentator, “Oh good lord, son!”

The commentator continued: “That is so unhealthy for you on multiple levels.”

As the Independent points out, lighters would probably be confiscated at stadium security checkpoints. There’s no written policy on flaming wallets — the same kind that magicians usually use for tricks — so this guy slipped through.  Read more…

Man asks girlfriend to text him World Cup updates, gets more than he bargained for

TwitterFacebook

There are already plenty of people already out there tweeting, blogging and writing about the World Cup — but maybe its time for a new voice to enter the mix.

“My boyfriend asked me to text him updates from the #ENGTUN game as he’s on his way home,” tweeted @lightningstarr, a law student from London, on Monday night. “You can’t say it’s not accurate.”

Here is the undeniably glorious result:

World Cup fans stuck around to pick up trash from stadiums

TwitterFacebook

Japan and Senegal recorded stunning wins at the World Cup on Tuesday, and you’d expect their fans to be out celebrating.

But before all that fun, supporters stayed back to tidy up their sections of the stadiums in videos that have gone viral.

Here are Senegalese fans collecting garbage after their match against Poland at Spartak Stadium in Moscow.

Football matches land on your table thanks to augmented reality

It’s World Cup season, so that means that even articles about machine learning have to have a football angle. Today’s concession to the beautiful game is a system that takes 2D videos of matches and recreates them in 3D so you can watch them on your coffee table (assuming you have some kind of augmented reality setup, which you almost certainly don’t). It’s not as good as being there, but it might be better than watching it on TV.

Amazon and Walmart have sick deals on 4K smart TVs this week from brands like Samsung, LG, and VIZIO

TwitterFacebook

I guess the World Cup is kind of a big deal, huh? It’s like even if you don’t care about sports, you still kinda care about the World Cup.

It’s no wonder everyone is screaming (and jumping) while they watch — games and goals are so fast and even the tiniest of movements can lead to a huge play, so missing even a second due to lag or shitty resolution is unacceptable.

If you’re tired of squinting to see where the ball went on your laptop or are tired of going to the bar only to crane your neck for 90 mins just to catch a sliver of the TV, we got you. While we don’t have tickets for you to attend a game in Russia, we do have deals on 4K smart TVs from Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Dell, which is basically the next best thing. Read more…

This country’s prime minister intervened because people couldn’t watch the World Cup

TwitterFacebook

Never get between fans and the World Cup.

Australia’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has stepped in after people complained of streaming issues with Optus, which holds the right to locally broadcast all the games at the tournament.

On Twitter, Turnbull said he had spoken with the telecommunications company’s CEO, Allen Lew, who reassured the problems would be fixed by Monday night.

I have spoken with the Optus CEO, Allen Lew. He assures me he is giving the World Cup streaming problems his personal attention and he believes it will be fixed this evening.

Artificial ‘earthquake’ detected in Mexico after World Cup goal

TwitterFacebook

Mexico is now the gold standard for fan celebration.

A small artificial earthquake was detected in Mexico City on Sunday after Hirving Lozano scored a goal — the only goal of the game — during Mexico’s World Cup matchup against Germany.

According to SIMMSA, which monitors seismic activity in the area, the earthquake was likely caused by “massive jumping” directly after the goal. Hell yeah.
