‘1000 People of Dance’ video captures humanity at its best

TwitterFacebook

You ever watch something that makes you believe that maybe, just maybe, humanity isn’t a giant dumpster fire of awfulness?

Inspired by those videos where people take pictures of themselves every day for a year, YouTuber Matt Bray created his own joyful series focused on dancing.

The project started with Bray dancing — by himself over 100 days in 2014, then in 100 different places in 2015, then with 100 different people in 2016. For his latest, Bray spent a year and a half traveling around the globe to a total of 15 different countries to create “1000 People of Dance.”

We’ve all been there — a missed flight or delay leads to hours of mind-numbing boredom in the terminal — unless overpriced food and stale air is your idea of a good time.

But Twitter user @katiemgould showed that with just a phone and some dancing feet, any flight delay can turn into a par-tay

After missing her flight and getting stuck in an Atlanta airport for 4 hours, she decided to kick up her shoes to the iconic hit, “You Make My Dreams,” by Hall & Oates.

She even included her cat, Bowie, in the hilarious shuffle. According to Twitter, he is her “favorite travel buddy” and a “precious baby angel boy”.  Read more…

Ohio State’s marching band re-created the Backpack Kid to perfection

TwitterFacebook

The Ohio State Marching band showed off its precision and knowledge of slightly nerdy viral dance moves on Saturday.

During the Ohio State band’s halftime show, the marching musicians got in formation to reenact the dance of …. The Backpack Kid.

You know, the Backpack Kid! Also known as The Floss, also known as the dance move every annoying kid now does at wedding receptions to become the center of attention.

Honestly, the marching band’s version is pretty uncanny, and instantly recognizable.

Teenager and now YouTube-famous dancer Russell Horning is credited with creating the move. The Floss got re-dubbed the Backpack Kid when Katy Perry brought him on stage during her Saturday Night Live performance in May, and he upstaged everyone while doing his rubber band-limbed moves, while — you guessed it — wearing a backpack. TwitterFacebook

If you haven’t yet landed on who to root for during the World Cup, you should seriously consider getting behind Senegal.

Sure, the men of the Senegalese team have made headlines for their incredible performances during round one of the tournament. But more importantly, if their pre-game warmup dances tell us anything, they seem to be having the most fun.

Fall into a delightful rabbit hole with the #ArchivesDanceParty hashtag

TwitterFacebook

There’s no better way to celebrate what would be the 100th birthday of Betty Ford than with a bit of dancing history.

The First Lady was a dancing enthusiast and a new exhibit will open April 10 at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum that honors her legacy — and passion for dance. To celebrate the exhibit and Ford’s birthday, a bevy of museums, galleries, archives, and dance fans hopped on Twitter to share historical dance photos (and GIFs) throughout history under the hashtag #ArchivesDanceParty

The tweets include dancing anecdotes and photographs of everyone from dancing legends Barack and Michelle Obama to professional students of dance to kids breakdancing on a sidewalk.  Read more…
