AMC’s MoviePass competitor hits 380K users in 3 months, will increase US attendance

As MoviePass flounders and runs out of cash, AMC’s competitive offering, AMC Stubs A-List, is scaling up quickly. The theater chain announced this morning the service is growing faster than anticipated, and has already signed up over 380,000 users in the three months since its late July launch. The growth is notable also because much […]

Facebook is getting in on the movie ticket battle royale

TwitterFacebook

In AMC‘s continuing quest to invigorate moviegoing and destroy MoviePass, the company has now joined up with Facebook to offer users another ticket-purchasing option, Deadline reports.

Starting soon, Facebook users will see a Movies tab on their home pages with options to buy tickets through AMC, Fandango, or Atom Tickets. The idea is to capitalize on the fact that people are already browsing Facebook and would readily buy movie tickets there rather than opening a new app or browser.

“From the very beginning of online ticketing availability, it’s been our goal to make the process as simple and accessible as possible for all of our guests, and we are thrilled to further this endeavor through our partnership with Facebook, which continues to expand our guests’ choices on where they purchase tickets,” said Stephen Colanero, Chief Marketing Officer, AMC Theatres. MoviePass is launching surge pricing — but it’s not as bad as you think

TwitterFacebook

MoviePass isn’t going down without a fight. The subscription-based movie ticket service is about to face major competition from AMC and will introduce several new measures in July to fight financial ruin

Among those changes are a bring-a-friend option, IMAX and 3D movies, and surge pricing – like Uber.

MoviePass C.E.O. Mitch Lowe told Business Insider that “high demand” movies will incur an additional $2 fee when purchased through MoviePass (depending on time as well). That’s $2 on top of the $9.95 most users are paying per month for unlimited movies in theaters, and less than a box of Sno-Caps.  Read more…

AMC comes for MoviePass with $20/month Stubs membership — and it sounds awesome

TwitterFacebook

AMC is adding a monthly subscription service that allows customers to see more movies at lower cost – you know, like MoviePass. The new program will cost $19.95/month for up to three movies a week along with AMC Stubs membership benefits.

AMC denounced MoviePass in 2017 after its unprecedented $9.95/month unlimited subscription, which allows users to see up to one movie per calendar day.

AMC A-List, launching June 26, is sufficiently different from MoviePass and may prove to be steep competition. Even though it limits users to three movies a week (no rollover), there’s no calendar day restriction, and they can see the same movie more than once, which MoviePass users can’t.  Read more…

MoviePass parent drops another 46%

There’s been another bomb at the box office, and it isn’t a movie. MoviePass parent Helios & Matheson lost nearly half of its remaining value today as investors continued to flee the cash-burning movie service. That drop followed a 31% dive yesterday, after the company filed a statement with the SEC warning that it would […]

AMC once again accepting MoviePass, the best thing, at all locations

TwitterFacebook

After temporarily suspending MoviePass at 10 major theaters around the country, AMC is will once again accept the subscription service at all locations, Entertainment Weekly reports.

“We think it’s a great move for both parties as well as the MoviePass consumers,” MoviePass C.E.O. Mitch Lowe told Mashable via email.

After MoviePass dropped its monthly fee from $50 to $9.95 for unlimited movies in theaters, AMC was quick to distance itself from the company (now owned in majority by Helios and Matheson Analytics), saying that the MoviePass business model was “not one AMC can embrace.”  Read more…

‘The Walking Dead’ star teases the finale of Season 8

TwitterFacebook

As the finale of The Walking Dead Season 8 approaches, the star of the series Andrew Lincoln has offered some clues into how the 16th episode will be going down on April 15.

Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, told Entertainment Weekly Tuesday that the finale is going to be huge, as it looks like several storylines are going to be wrapping up in the next two episodes. Not just that, but it’s going to be a bit “unusual.”

“I would say this is a smorgasbord,” Lincoln told EW. “I think you’ve got everything in this one. It’s quite an unusual structure, but it’s very emotional, I hope, because that’s what I felt [while filming]. It’s epic.” Read more…
