‘Tillerson-ed’ is the perfect dating slang for these chaotic end times

TwitterFacebook

It’s 2018 and “ghosting” someone you were in a relationship with? That’s so last year.

Now it’s all about Tillerson-ing people. The term, which is admittedly a real mouthful, was coined Tuesday in the wake of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson learning he was out of a job via Donald Trump’s tweets. The good folks on Twitter have turned his misfortune into a verb that perfectly describes so many of our dating woes.

People have been sharing stories of the time they ended a relationship via social media or uh, non-traditional means.

CONFESSION: I once Tillerson-ed an ex by breaking up with him via changing my relationship status to “Single” on Facebook

The day before Valentine’s day

Ugh, of course ‘cryptomancing’ is the newest dating trend

TwitterFacebook

In case you hadn’t heard, cryptocurrencies are the hot topic du jour. Crypto-chat has worked its way into our dinner party conversations. And, now it seems it’s even wormed itself into our dating lives. Great.

Cryptomancing — a term coined by The Guardian —  is the latest trend to grace the world of dating apps. And, if you’re an avid swiper, you’ve probably come face-to-face with a “cryptomancer.”

“They’re male, and after about three introductory questions, will say: ‘I’ve been investing in a lot of bitcoin recently, as well as Ripple and Ethereum,'” writes The Guardian’s Max Benwell.  Read more…

It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and it appears sex robots are gonna make Cupid’s job a lot harder.

Bae creeping on their ex’s Instagram? They could be ‘micro-cheating’

TwitterFacebook

Cushioning, breadcrumbing, kittenfishing, tindstagramming—it seems there’s no end to the additions to our dating lexicon.

And, friends, we’ve got yet another term to add to our dictionaries: “micro-cheating.”

“Micro-cheating” is a new term to describe a partner’s “seemingly small actions” which suggests a person is “emotionally or physically focused” on someone else. Things like repeatedly liking an ex’s Instagram posts, or constantly texting someone else.

Readers beware: this term might bring you some momentary relief that there’s ~finally~ a word to describe your relationship pet peeve. But, you could end up misconstruing platonic gestures as “micro-cheating.”  Read more…

Ex texting you over the holidays? Yep, you’re being ‘Marleyed’

TwitterFacebook

Ebenezer Scrooge isn’t the only person to receive a visit from ghosts of Christmas past during the festive period. Turns out one in 10 of us are haunted by former flames over the holidays—a dating trend that’s been dubbed “Marleying.”

Named after Jacob Marley, the ghost of Scrooge’s former business partner in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Marleying is basically when an ex gets back in touch over Christmas after a long period without contact.

Researchers at dating site eharmony coined the term after they surveyed more than 4,000 British adults to find out whether they’d experienced the trend. The research revealed that 11 percent of singles have been Marleyed, while 8 percent admit they’ve contacted an ex themselves. Christmas Eve is the date we’re most likely to receive a text from an ex, according to the findings.  Read more…
