‘New Yorker’ cover celebrates the 100+ women coming to Congress

Though it’s (generally) been a bad time for the United States, it’s also been a golden age for New Yorker covers.

The magazine’s November 19 cover, however, celebrates one recent, joyous victory: the more than 100 women who were elected to Congress on Tuesday. Instead of letting Trump dominate the cover yet again, women, specifically women of color, take center stage.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a cover this…happy.

When The New Yorker announced that Steve Bannon — the man who mainstreamed white nationalism as a former Donald Trump adviser — would headline its New Yorker Festival, the internet responded with a collective, “Are you kidding me?“

Then, celebrities slated to appear at the event started pulling out on Twitter.

So, Kanye West did a thing this week and Donald Trump is involved and the internet has pretty much melted down. So the folks at music site Pigeons and Planes did the only thing they could to make sense of it all: mash up Kanye tweets and New Yorker cartoons.

Yes, that pillar of highbrow comedy meets the philosophy of Kanye West in 140 280 characters or less, and it’s actually pretty damn amusing.
