The first ‘Aquaman’ poster has so many scary fish on it

TwitterFacebook

If anyone was worried that the upcoming Aquaman movie wouldn’t have a bunch of scary fish in it, worry no longer.

The very first Aquaman poster was revealed Monday and really puts the “aqua” in Aquaman, featuring Jason Momoa as Aquaman with his signature trident surrounded by a whole bunch of scary, deadly fish (and a few mammals and reptiles too).

Steve Trevor is coming back for ‘Wonder Woman 2’ and we’re not screaming, you’re screaming. (We’re screaming.)

TwitterFacebook

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins announced Wednesday morning the game-changing return of Chris Pine as Steve Trevor for the film’s 2019 sequel.

Welcome to WONDER WOMAN 1984, Steve Trevor! #WW84 pic.twitter.com/BCLARdVuTu

— Patty Jenkins (@PattyJenks) June 13, 2018

If you saw Wonder Woman in 2017, you may recall one key detail about Steve Trevor: HE DIED. Or so we thought?? In a devastating sequence during the final battle, Steve bid Diana goodbye, gave her his family heirloom, and flew straight to his death.

OR SO WE THOUGHT. Read more…

DC’s Geoff Johns drops big hint about ‘Wonder Woman 2’

TwitterFacebook

DC’s Geoff Johns may have dropped a serious hint about the Wonder Woman sequel – namely, the year it takes place.

Johns, DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer, shared a teaser on Facebook Friday morning that simply read “WW84,” which might point to seeing our hero in 1984.

Johns uploaded the image as his cover photo, where it slid largely under the radar until The Hollywood Reporter sniffed it out. Presumably, the teaser means Wonder Woman 2 will jump ahead to 1984.

We knew the sequel would move forward in time, leaving 1917 (and Steve Trevor) in the dust, but having an exact year narrows this down immensely. By 1984, Diana could run into a young Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent – or almost anyone else in the DCEU, hero or villain. She could also wear a lot of pastels. Read more…

‘Justice League’ is officially, well and truly DC’s lowest grossing movie

TwitterFacebook

It’s over, guysJustice League has finally ended its domestic box office run and it’s now officially the lowest grossing film in the DC Extended Universe.

Director Zack Snyder’s multi-hero blockbuster starring Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Flash, the antithesis to Marvel’s Avengers, made $229 million at the U.S. box office since opening in November 2017.

The film couldn’t top Man of Steel, next rung up, which made $291 million at the U.S. box office. DC’s top domestic grossing film to date is the unbeatable Wonder Woman, which hit $412 million — and notably, it came out only months before Justice League and probably should have harnessed more of a guaranteed flow-over audience than it did. Kristen Wiig joins ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel — and her character name is a big hint

TwitterFacebook

It looks like Wonder Woman 2 is assembling its own cast of wonder women. Returning director Patty Jenkins announced Friday via Twitter that indie film actress and Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig will join the sequel.

So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Did an Instagram photo spoil a major ‘Suicide Squad 2’ plot point?

TwitterFacebook

The Suicide Squad sequel may have just spoiled one of its only cliffhangers. The 2015 film ended with a self-sacrifice from Diablo (Jay Hernandez), but it looks like he’s back on set and training for Suicide Squad 2.

Joel Kinnaman, who will reprise his role as Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad 2, shared a photo from the gym where he is ostensibly working out to prepare for the sequel with costar Jai Courtney – and Hernandez.

‘Black Lightning’ presents powerful, intersectional heroes when we need them most

TwitterFacebook

At some point in the young progressive’s education, you realize that the word “normal” is code for “straight and white.” Everything else — foreign cinema, LGBTQ romance, minority-led TV and films, etc. — must be explicitly labeled for its otherness. So it should come as no surprise that the CW’s new drama Black Lightning is being marketed to television viewers for, well, it’s blackness.

But for the CW and Black Lightning, the challenge to provide representation for a whole community is a badge of honor and crucial part of the show. And it tackles that challenge head on, and does so much more. Read more…

Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke is here to singlehandedly revive the DCEU

TwitterFacebook

Is Deathstroke the DCEU’s saving grace? Well, no, because Wonder Woman – but kind of yes since Justice League was such a bust and he’s played by Magic Mike alum Joe Manganiello. Manganiello took to Twitter Saturday to wordlessly reveal the first photo of himself in character as Slade Wilson (not to be confused with Wade Wilson, another sword-wielding superhuman named after death), and we have a sneaky feeling we’re going to watch that movie.

Long-awaited sequel to ‘Watchmen’ has humor, heart

TwitterFacebook

Warning: this post contains spoilers for the first issue of Doomsday Clock

There seems to be two kinds of comics — gritty, dark, and serious on the one hand, lighthearted and funny on the other. Somehow, the first installment of Doomsday Clock does the impossible: it manages to be both.

That’s appropriate, because this comic is attempting to do the impossible in another way, too. Writer Geoff Johns (who also happens to be the President and CCO of DC Entertainment) is trying to close the divide between the regular DC Universe of Superman, Batman et al, and the world of Alan Moore’s 1986 standalone classic Watchmen — in which Superman is named as a fictional character in a comic book.  Read more…
