Marvel’s newest mutant is a drag queen and her name is Shade

You might want to hop on the Iceman spin-off train. Marvel’s making good choices, thanks in large part to writer Sina Grace.

The fourth issue of the recently launched series introduced a new mutant. She possesses teleportation powers, and she can create and enter a pocket dimension inside her handheld folding fan.

Oh yeah, she’s also Marvel’s first drag queen superheroAnd her name is Shade.

Here’s her first appearance, in a page from the comic that Grace helpfully re-tweeted.

This drag queen’s Voldemort impersonation is going viral and it’s amazing

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but we don’t necessarily think Tom Marvolo Riddle – notorious stick-in-the-mud – would agree. 

While Lord Voldemort was Riddle’s evil persona, Lady Voldemort is the alter ego of drag performer   Florida Man. But instead of slaying innocent people with unforgivable curses, Lady Voldemort slays on the stage with her dance moves.

Why Google’s new Doodle is dedicated to Marlene Dietrich

One of Hollywood’s Golden Age legends has been glorified in a Google Doodle.

The Doodle depicts Marlene Dietrich, famous for her breakout 1930 role as cabaret singer Lola-Lola in Germany’s first talking picture, Der Blaue Engel, and who was born on this day in 1901 — that’s 116 years ago.

Illustrated by artist Sasha Steinberg (also known as drag queen Sasha Velour and winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9), the Doodle shows Dietrich performing in a gender-bending top hat and tuxedo, worn in her Hollywood debut role as nightclub dancer Amy Jolly in 1930’s Morocco. Read more…
