So, Justin Timberlake DID do a Prince tribute during his halftime show

TwitterFacebook

Justin Timberlake included a Prince tribute in his  Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday night – and the internet is skeptical.

As TMZ predicted, Timberlake performed before a massive projection of Prince and sang along to a snippet of the late musician’s “I Would Die 4 U.”

The verdict? We’ll let Twitter take it from here:

If they wanted to tribute Prince, as would have been appropriate, they should have made the entire halftime show exactly that with a supergroup of musicians#SuperBowl

Twitter showers Janet Jackson with love as Justin Timberlake returns to Super Bowl

TwitterFacebook

Janet Jackson might’ve confirmed she’s not performing at the Super Bowl tonight, but she’s still managing to upstage Justin Timberlake anyway.

Janet-loving Twitter users rebranded Timberlake’s return to the Super Bowl halftime show as #JanetJacksonAppreciationDay. Who can forget his last trip to the Super Bowl, in 2004, when Timberlake was responsible for Jackson’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction”?

All these posts highlighting Jackson’s talent sure makes you wish the man in the woods would go back there and let Janet take the stage instead.

On this @JanetJackson #JanetJacksonAppreciationDay, let’s set this thing off the right way: pic.twitter.com/2jcucJD9yk

Justin Timberlake’s ‘Man of the Woods’ gets savaged by Pitchfork

TwitterFacebook

Justin Timberlake’s fifth solo album Man of the Woods released on Friday and immediately got torn to pieces by Pitchfork.

Man of the Woods comes in at 66 minutes with 15 and a half songs and Pitchfork’s Jamieson Cox could barely find any moments worth praising, calling large swaths of the record shallow and uninspired. And that’s a pretty fair assessment.

Here are some of the hard-hitting highlights from Cox’s savage review of JT’s Man of the Woods:

  • “Man of the Woods is a misstep large enough to merit relitigating Justin Timberlake’s status as a pop superstar.”

  • “Instead of surging forward with a new vision for pop music, it leans on the sounds and genres that have become American comfort food: country, soul, funk, disco, gospel.”

  • “Too much of Man of the Woods is musically and thematically shallow; at 66 minutes, it’s a mile wide and an inch deep.”

  • ““Midnight Summer Jam” is a sub-Robin Thicke boogie with a sub-John Popper harmonica solo; “Sauce” is Beyoncé’s “Don’t Hurt Yourself” cut with a jug full of pond water.”

  • “And there’s no refuge from the lyrics, which in many places engender the same mix of emotions you’d confront upon walking in on your parents having sex.” Read more…

Justin Timberlake dances around nature in ‘Man of the Woods’ music video

TwitterFacebook

Justin Timberlake’s new album Man of the Woods released Friday along with a new music for the album’s namesake song: “Man of the Woods.”

“Man of the Woods” is a light, summery kind of song about how JT loves his wife, Jessica Biel, and likes to brag about her because, well, JT’s a man of the woods. The entire song is upbeat with occasional twangs of a telecaster — the first reference to Timberlake’s southern roots that were promised by album’s initial advertisements.

In the music video, Timberlake dances around various forest scenes and log cabins, enjoying the outdoorsy life with Biel. And, of course, Timberlake is wearing a flannel shirt, jeans, and big hiking boots throughout most of the video because, well, JT’s a man of the woods. Read more…

Dylan Farrow expertly calls out Justin Timberlake’s hypocrisy by using his own tweet

TwitterFacebook

Justin Timberlake isn’t a stranger to controversy, so you would think he would know better than to walk right into a Twitter storm, but here we are.

The singer, who is busy promoting his upcoming album Man of the Woods, waded back into the pool of bad decisions after wearing a Time’s Up pin at this year’s Golden Globes, despite working with director Woody Allen, who has been accused of sexual assault by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow.

Farrow has been outspoken about the hypocrisy of Hollywood heavyweights who don’t walk the talk—or in other words, who support women who have endured sexual misconduct and yet continue to work with those accused of that very same misconduct. But just in case Timberlake wasn’t clear on how he is a part of the problem too, on Tuesday, Farrow responded to one of his tweets in an exchange that is *chef’s kiss* perfection.  Read more…

Justin Timberlake admits he ‘stumbled’ during the Nipplegate controversy

TwitterFacebook

The 2004 Super Bowl halftime show’s ‘Nipplegate’ was truly the Watergate of sports broadcasting: Where were you when Justin Timberlake unexpectedly exposed Janet Jackson’s breast to 143.6 million viewers on live television — seemingly, to her utter surprise?

In a new interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, Timberlake addressed the infamous “wardrobe malfunction” known as Nipplegate, in light of his preparations to return to the stage for Super Bowl LII.

The singer admitted that he “stumbled through” the aftermath of the scandal, vaguely addressing criticisms that he didn’t do enough to defend Jackson from the disproportionate backlash she received. Read more…

Dylan Farrow slams stars supporting Time’s Up, but working with Woody Allen

TwitterFacebook

Hollywood is smack bang in the middle of a revolution against sexual harassment and abuse, but Dylan Farrow has had it with some stars’ apparent hypocrisy.

The daughter of director Woody Allen has slammed several supporters of the anti-harassment initiative Time’s Up, including Blake Lively, star of Café Society, and Justin Timberlake, star of Wonder Wheel, for continuing to work with her father.

“It’s of course particularly hard for me as a survivor of sexual abuse to know that for these particular individuals I am not part of the ‘every woman’ they stand for.” https://t.co/XmIq8L2dOm
