Finally, something good.
Google says it doesn’t plan to comply with a proposed subpoena that would ask the tech giant to hand over names, email addresses, and IP addresses of women who anonymously contributed to a Google Docs spreadsheet highlighting…

How supporters of Christine Blasey Ford are showing solidarity

TwitterFacebook

On Twitter, you won’t scroll for long before you see the hashtags #WeBelieveSurvivors, #CancelKavanaugh, and #BelieveChristine. They are notes of solidarity directed toward Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, one of the women who has come forward with sexual assault allegations concerning Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. On Thursday, Ford testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about those allegations.

In addition to the support on social media, people have gathered for demonstrations nationwide. In Washington D.C., the day began with a Women’s March Rally in front of the Supreme Court and solidarity circles inside a Senate building office building. Read more…

Taylor Swift makes emotional speech on 1-year anniversary of sexual assault lawsuit win

TwitterFacebook

A year after Taylor Swift’s groping trial, the singer is still speaking out.

In an emotional speech given during her show in Tampa, Florida on Tuesday, Swift sat on a piano bench and reflected on her rollercoaster of a year — which included the 2017 lawsuit she won against radio host David Mueller after he groped her during a meet-and-greet in 2013.

“A year ago I was not playing in a stadium in Tampa. I was in a court room in Denver, Colorado,” she began, “and honestly I was there for a sexual assault case and this day a year ago was the day that the jury sided in my favor and said that they believe in me.”  Read more…

‘Love Island’ feels different now and it’s because of #MeToo

TwitterFacebook

This has, categorically, been the summer of Love Island. Despite being an annual fixture since 2015, this year’s Love Island has utterly steamrolled popular culture: it has become mainstream popular culture.

2018 was the year that the broadsheets couldn’t ignore it: MacBook anthropologists mused about attachment theory and heteronormative personality tropes and generation-Insta – before finishing with something like, ‘or maybe we just like watching semi-naked hotties getting it on!’

Because the only thing we love more than watching Love Island is talking about why it is that we love watching Love Island. Read more…

#MeToo founder calls out Tony Robbins for his tone-deaf comments on the movement

TwitterFacebook

Life coach Tony Robbins dug himself into a hole last month when his comments suggesting that some women use the #MeToo movement to make themselves “feel good” made the rounds online. Now, the backlash is picking up steam.

On Saturday, #MeToo movement founder Tarana Burke weighed in on Robbins after a video from Now This News brought his comments back into the spotlight.

Oh the video is MUCH worse. His misogyny runs deep. To even repeat that story of his ‘friend’ who wouldn’t hire the ‘pretty woman’ as if it’s the MOVEMENT’s fault and not the sexist man’s fault is all you need to hear. It’s deplorable. But SO many folks misunderstand this work.

Uma Thurman’s story about Quentin Tarantino adds another layer to the #MeToo conversation

TwitterFacebook

After The New York Times published Uma Thurman’s #MeToo account on Saturday, one person dominated the coverage — Harvey Weinstein.

But the actress recounted two stories of abuse in the Times piece, one featuring Harvey Weinstein and the other, Quentin Tarantino. Only the Weinstein story featured sexual assault and misconduct, which is why only one would be classified as a traditional #MeToo story.

The allegations against Tarantino are harder to classify. They don’t involve sexual assault or harassment or anything that could be neatly categorized as sexual misconduct. But both stories, however distant from one another they may seem, involve an abuse of power that feels both gendered and familiar, adding a whole other layer of complexity to the increasingly intricate #MeToo conversation. Dylan Farrow expertly calls out Justin Timberlake’s hypocrisy by using his own tweet

TwitterFacebook

Justin Timberlake isn’t a stranger to controversy, so you would think he would know better than to walk right into a Twitter storm, but here we are.

The singer, who is busy promoting his upcoming album Man of the Woods, waded back into the pool of bad decisions after wearing a Time’s Up pin at this year’s Golden Globes, despite working with director Woody Allen, who has been accused of sexual assault by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow.

Farrow has been outspoken about the hypocrisy of Hollywood heavyweights who don’t walk the talk—or in other words, who support women who have endured sexual misconduct and yet continue to work with those accused of that very same misconduct. But just in case Timberlake wasn’t clear on how he is a part of the problem too, on Tuesday, Farrow responded to one of his tweets in an exchange that is *chef’s kiss* perfection.  Read more…
