Anne Hathaway rewatched her first ever commercial and it’s so bad it’s good

TwitterFacebook

This might even rival Aaron Paul’s incredibly 2000s Juicy Fruit commercial.

Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway was on The Late Show on Thursday evening. Host Stephen Colbert ran through her various acting achievements — Devil Wears Prada, Les Miserables and the upcoming Ocean’s 8.

But more importantly, the pair watched back Hathaway’s first ever commercial which she filmed as a teenager, and it is corny as a vegan barbecue.

In it, Hathaway is bidding goodbye to her boyfriend, whose family are moving house. He assures her they’ll have the summer together, as it takes ages to sell a house. Then a placard for “Better Homes and Gardens” is plonked outside the house, and Hathaway gives her beau a hug while crying “goodbye, I’ll miss you!” Read more…

Chance the Rapper calls Heineken ad ‘terribly racist’

TwitterFacebook

Chance the Rapper has hit out at Heineken for an ad he’s dubbed “terribly racist.”

The Chicago star took to Twitter on Sunday to slam the commercial for Heineken’s light beer, which features the product’s tagline, “Sometimes lighter is better.”

“I think some companies are purposely putting out racist ads so they can get more views,” he tweeted on Sunday.

I think some companies are purposely putting out noticably racist ads so they can get more views. And that shit racist/bogus so I guess I shouldn’t help by posting about it. But 😂 I gotta just say tho. The “sometimes lighter is better” Hienekin commercial is terribly racist omg

‘This Is Us’ hilariously scrambles to clear Crock-Pot’s name before Super Bowl with new promo

TwitterFacebook

Warning: Spoilers for the second season of This Is Us ahead.

This Is Damage Control at its FINEST.

You’ve probably heard by now, but during its last episode NBC’s This Is Us revealed that a faulty Crock-Pot is what started the fire that potentially kills everyone’s favorite TV dad, Jack Pearson.

Since then, despite many attempts (and a newly created Twitter account) to convince everyone its products are safe and reliable, Crock-Pot’s brand name has been dragged through the mud and fans are boycotting the slow cookers.

As the PR fire continues to burn bright for the brand, they’ve enlisted the help of Jack Pearson himself — played by Milo Ventimiglia — to help clear Crock-Pot’s name before the Super Bowl. Read more…

TiVo will let you skip the football and watch just the Super Bowl commercials

TwitterFacebook

America is breaking out the nachos and beer for the Sunday’s big game. This one’s especially riling up the sports world, with Eagles fans rooting against what might be the Patriots’ third win in the past five years. Even Fiona the Hippo weighed in with her prediction

But if you’re like me, you’re only there for the commercials and the snacks.

There’s good news for fake fans like us. TiVo has the perfect solution for people who just want to watch Cardi B replace Amazon’s Alexa — it released a feature called GameSkip, which is a reversed version of its popular SkipMode. Instead of allowing TiVo users to speed through commercials, it lets them skip through the game and straight to PSAs from brewing companies that raise awareness for clean drinking water.  Read more…

Sexist self-driving car ad says the biggest benefit of AI is keeping women from driving

TwitterFacebook

Chinese search giant Baidu has a self-driving car project in development that aims to put its autonomous driving platform into vehicles as early as next year. The company’s latest attempt at a viral promotion is far from anything you’d expect to see from one of the world’s most advanced autonomous projects, however — or really any major brand in 2017.

Baidu’s US Twitter account posted a short video today about how self-driving cars will make the world a better place. But the spot quickly devolves into a tone deaf play on gender stereotypes, a cringeworthy mashup of 21st century tech and 1950s sensibilities.    Read more…
