‘Family Guy’ pokes fun at Kevin Spacey’s bogus apology

Hollywood’s sexual misconduct headlines are officially old enough to have made it on TV, as with Family Guy‘s Dec. 3 episode “Crimes and Meg’s Demeanor.” The episode refers to Kevin Spacey being a gay man in relation to the ending of The Usual Suspects – which is to say, completely unrelated in context.

In the episode, Meg starts drinking to boost her social capital at school during her senior year. She goes to a party and downs several beers, impressing her fellow youths by casually tossing them over her shoulder. Read more…

Season 6, which was previously announced to be the final season of the political drama, will be 8 episodes long.

“We were really excited we could get to an agreement… for the conclusion of the show,” said Netflix boss Ted Sarandos, speaking Monday at UBS’s Global Media and Communications Conference, per Variety. Read more…

Ridley Scott proud to ‘lay down the law’ and recast Kevin Spacey

TwitterFacebook

It took a week after Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual misconduct for the actor to be completely cut from his big December movie release, and director Ridley Scott says it was an easy decision.

“There’s no time for pondering,” Scott told Entertainment Weekly of the decision to reshoot with another actor. “Sometimes you’ve got to lay down the law. You have to!”

When the allegations against Spacey first surfaced, Scott was shocked, but quickly kicked into gear.

“I sat and thought about it and realized, we cannot. You can’t tolerate any kind of behavior like that. And it will affect the film,” he said. “We cannot let one person’s action affect the good work of all these other people. It’s that simple.” Read more…

Artist ‘fixes’ sexual misconduct apology statements, turning them into painfully honest poems

TwitterFacebook

A pattern has emerged with every new allegation of sexual misconduct. After the bombshell comes an “apology” letter — now the accused’s ubiquitous and perfunctory mechanism for responding.

Many have found the letters hollow, insincere, and insufficient. But one woman has altered the apology letters to give them new meaning.

Poet Isobel O’Hare is creating striking “erasure poems” out of the apologies, and posting them on her Instagram. She has created poems out of the apologies of Louis C.K., Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and more. Read more…

Kevin Spacey completely cut from his next movie

TwitterFacebook

We are swiftly learning that “isolated incident” is not a part of the narrative of sexual misconduct accusations gripping Hollywood – where there is one allegation, more are likely soon to follow.

This is not lost on Sony Pictures, which on Wednesday – the same day new groping allegations surfaced against Kevin Spacey – reportedly decided that the Oscar winner will be completely removed from his next film, All the Money in the World, and his scenes re-shot with Christopher Plummer in the not-insignificant role of J Paul Getty.

Director Ridley Scott was aiming to start re-shoots immediately, Deadline first reported, and hopes to still hit his Dec. 22 release date. That would be quite a feat indeed, considering that Spacey plays an important supporting role as the oil tycoon who negotiates with kidnappers demanding a ransom for his grandson. Read more…
