Okay, so you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War, possibly multiple times if the box office numbers are any indication. You’re still trying to suss out what’s what — not just because of that harrowing ending, but also everything else that occurs throughout the film.

At least one Marvel favorite didn’t die horribly in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Spoilers ahead, obviously.
A big Avengers: Infinity War no-show survived, as it turns out. It was strange to many that the character never appeared to begin with, but at least now we know for sure that she’s safe.

Look, don’t be mad at Star-Lord for what he did in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

TwitterFacebook

Hey. There are major spoilers ahead, in case the headline didn’t make that clear. You should probably turn back if you haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War yet.

There’s an Avengers: Infinity War takeaway where the real villain is Star-Lord, not Thanos. I’m here to tell you: That take is wrong.

Star-Lord did some dumb shit on Titan, no question. After the combined efforts of three Avengers, three Guardians of the Galaxy, and Nebula left Thanos ensnared and — at last! — vulnerable, Peter Quill screwed it all up.

Before I tell you why Quill isn’t the bad guy here, let me set the scene. We’re deep into Infinity War now. Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Spider-Man have linked up with Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula on the surface of Thanos’s home planet, Titan. Read more…

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is a spotlight on the MCU’s biggest weakness

TwitterFacebook

Warning: This post contains MAJOR spoilers for the end of Avengers: Infinity War

Maybe I’m a monster, but the moment I cheered the loudest during Avengers: Infinity War was when all the superheroes disintegrated and the bad guy got his happy ending.

I’m certainly not a fan of genocide (to put it mildly), or even a Thanos groupie. But I do like compelling stories, and a villain-centric arc that refused to let the heroes win was the first time a Marvel movie has surprised me.

So what’s the problem? Well, the ending leaves me itching for a Thanos prequel instead of the next Avengers or even Captain Marvel — which will undoubtedly undo this unhappy ending. And the knowledge that we’ll probably never get that prequel is why the Marvel Cinematic Universe is starting to lose me. Read more…

The Marvel Cinematic Universe would be 1,000 times better if EVERY hero rocked facial hair

Infinity War features about two dozen leads, including most of the Avengers, all of the Guardians, and a bunch of not-quite-Avengers like Spider-Man and Doctor Strange.
But there’s one clear breakout star among the bunch, and I think it’s pretty clea…

You might enjoy ‘Infinity War’ more if you’re not a hardcore Marvel fan

Which ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ hero would you want to rule the universe?

TwitterFacebook

Avengers: Infinity War is supposed to be a kind of pivot point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It’s an end-of-all-things crossover story that promises to fundamentally reshape the fiction we’ve come to know over the past decade. We’ve put a lot of thought here at Mashable into how we could talk about this massive thing, and one idea in particular kept surfacing again and again:

Let’s pit everyone against one another!

So that’s exactly what we did. We put together a tournament bracket, with guidance from Mashable deputy entertainment editor Angie Han — whose strong feelings on proper seeding are well-known — that poses a simple question: Which Infinity War hero do you think is best-suited to wield the Infinity Gauntlet’s limitless power? James Cameron shouldn’t complain about the MCU. He should be thanking it.

TwitterFacebook

“I’m hoping we’ll start getting Avenger fatigue here pretty soon.”

Come on now, James Cameron. That’s not how we say “thank you.”

The creator of blockbusters like The Terminator, Titanic, and Avatar struck a testy attitude toward the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the weekend. He was speaking to reporters to promote the miniseries AMC Visionaries: James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction (h/t IndieWire).

“Not that I don’t love the movies,” he continued. “It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!” Read more…
