Chrissy Teigen kicks off 2019 with a viral moment, and yes, her eyeball is fine

Chrissy Teigen has already kicked off 2019 with a viral moment, but it must have hurt a bit.

NYPD surveillance drone will fly above Times Square on New Year’s Eve

TwitterFacebook

It’s a bird, it’s a plane — it’s a…surveillance drone?

For the first time in history, the New York Police Department will fly a drone over Times Square to monitor the crowd during the annual New Year’s Eve celebration. The drone will surveil the event alongside more than 1,200 cameras in order to assist around 7,000 police officers who will be on duty, according to the Associated Press.

The remote-controlled quadcopter will never fly directly over the crowd and will be tied to a building in an enclosed area as a safety precaution.

The NYPD will also be deploying technology that prevents unauthorized drone usage during the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Times Square. Read more…

Genius ushers in 2018 with iconic moment from Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj’s ‘Feeling Myself’

TwitterFacebook

There’s only one person in this entire damn universe with the power to command the world to stop—Beyoncé.

In the final milliseconds of 2017, the dulcet sound of Beyoncé ordered the world—and year— to stop. And, as 2018 began, she gave the world permission to “carry on.”

This was no coincidence, friends. Ingenious Twitter user @xavierliciouss spent New Year’s Eve conducting an extremely important experiment involving “Feeling Myself” by Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé.

“So I tested out the theory that if you play “Feeling Myself” by Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé at exactly 11:58:50 pm on New Year’s Eve, Beyoncé will say “world stop” in 2017 and “Carry on” in 2018, AND BITCH IT WORKEDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!” she wrote. Read more…

New Year’s Eve at Hogwarts Castle was a magical kaleidoscope of fireworks

TwitterFacebook

While some of us were dancing our hearts out and glugging champagne, others were ushering in the New Year in the most magical way possible — at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

They didn’t have to run through a wall at King’s Cross Station to get there, though. They went along to Universal Studios Hollywood, where Hogwarts Castle happens to be located.

As the clock struck 12, people looked to the sky to feast their eyes upon a kaleidoscopic display of fireworks above Hogwarts Castle.

Happy New Years from #universalstudioshollywood 🎉

Mariah Carey had just one hot demand during her NYE performance

TwitterFacebook

All Mariah wants for 2018 is… hot tea?

Mariah might have managed to emerge from her New Year’s Eve performance unscathed this time around. But, there was one thing she wasn’t thrilled about—the absence of hot tea. Oh dear.

A lip sync fail turned Mariah’s 2016 appearance on Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve into an excruciatingly awkward disaster of epic proportions. But, things were looking up for Mariah one year on, performance-wise at least.

After singing her iconic 1990 song “Vision of Love,” Mariah was getting ready to sing “Hero.” But, before she got started, she had one demand. A demand that was not met.  Read more…

Paris Hilton rings in 2018 with the most Paris Hilton tweet imaginable

TwitterFacebook

As 2017 fizzled and faded away to all of our great relief, Paris Hilton had one final parting message. One that might just make you choke on your champagne.

True to Paris form, the tweet began with a bit of a tease: “Before 2017 ends I would like to say…”

After what looked like an eternity of full stops, she said what she was really on her mind: “That’s hot.”

Before 2017 ends I would like to say..

Trump’s NYE bash has a ‘modern fantasy garden’ theme. We have some better suggestions.

TwitterFacebook

President Donald Trump is often accused of living in his own personal fantasy world where white supremacists are “very fine people” and New Jersey muslims celebrated the 9/11 attack. So it is perhaps fitting that his New Year’s Eve celebration at Mar-a-Largo has, according to The Washington Post, a “modern fantasy garden” theme.

And while we’re excited to see what mythical bullshit takes root in such a gathering of sycophants and enablers, we also can’t help but note that Team Trump passed up a wonderful opportunity to explore other themes perhaps more germane to the 45th presidency of these great United States.  Read more…

People are timing songs perfectly for New Year’s Eve midnight on Twitter

TwitterFacebook

Perfectly timing your New Year’s Eve midnight song is an art that requires intense track analysis (if you’re that obsessive over it).

Luckily, Twitter’s doing it for you.

Folks are tweeting the perfect time to play a song in order to land on a prime moment at midnight on New Year’s Eve, using the words “if you play.”

If you play “Skyline To” by Frank Ocean at 11:59:31 on December 31st, Frank will say “that’s a pretty fucking fast year flew by” just as 2017 ends.

— Blonded. (@blondedocean) December 15, 2017

if you play “…ready for it” at exactly 11:58:50pm on december 31st, taylor swift will declare her iconic “…are you ready for it?” line right as the clock strikes midnight. enter 2018 the right way.
