If you lived under a rock during 2017 (can I come too?), it was a year in which various sexual harassers were outed for being awful.

It was a year that the conversation around harassment, power and abuse started to be taken seriously, but it seems like Australian television station Channel Nine — who had its own problems recently, missed the memo.

In a commercial for its upcoming season of Married at First Sight, it featured Dean, a man looking for a woman who will listen to him, and openly wants to be the “man in charge” in the household.  Read more…

Jessica Chastain absolutely skewers Hollywood’s sexist audition culture

Hollywood audition culture is notoriously sexist — celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Emmy Rossum have spoken out about it before. And in a new sketch from Friday’s Tonight Show, Jessica Chastain took another dig at the famously toxic process.

In the sketch, Chastain shows up at an audition to read for “Angela.” The part seems straightforward enough, until the casting director (played by Jimmy Fallon) starts asking her to “do it again, but hot” and, in a truly cringeworthy moment, to read her lines like a “spicy little peppermint with a secret.” (Of course, when a male actor comes in to audition, he receives no notes.) It’s 2017 but 2 white guys are opening a ramen restaurant called ‘Misohawni’

This is full on offensive, especially in light of what’s happening in Hollywood right now.

Two white guys in South Africa have launched a ramen restaurant, calling it “Misohawni.”

Located in Melville, a suburb in Johannesburg, the restaurant serves ramen, Korean BBQ, poke and izakaya dishes — basically an inauthentic mishmash of East Asian cuisines.

The restaurant’s owners, Ryan Vermaak and Fabio di Cosmo, are both from South Africa.

The restaurant appears to take its name from Full Metal Jacket, a Stanley Kubrick movie which follows American soldiers in the Vietnam war. Read more…
