Stephen King just perfectly summed up Twitter in 2 simple sentences

TwitterFacebook

He may have written some incredibly long novels, but Stephen King does brevity well too.

You only need to read some of the many, many Twitter barbs he’s aimed at the U.S. President to know how lethal he can be over a shorter character count.

On Sunday, the horror master decided to tweet his thoughts about Twitter itself. And the simile he used pretty much nailed it.

I like Twitter. It’s like gossiping over the world’s longest backyard fence.

— Stephen King (@StephenKing) June 25, 2018

On the one hand it’s sort of surprising that he’s now saying he likes Twitter after he described it as an “intellectual dead zone” just last month. But still — maybe the micro blogging site is winning him over? Read more…

Everyone is comparing Trump’s border policy to ‘Handmaid’s Tale,’ even the creator

TwitterFacebook

Spoilers ahead: If you haven’t watched Handmaid’s Tale, you’ve been warned.

The Trump administration’s forcible separation of children from their families at the U.S. border has everyone comparing it to The Handmaid’s Tale — including Margaret Atwood herself.

The author of the dystopian classic has pulled many of the narrative’s horrific happenings from history, and on Tuesday, Atwood acknowledged how believable Trump’s cruel border policy would be within the Republic of Gilead.

That is why I did not put anything into #TheHandmaidsTale that had not happened somewhere… including the snatching of children from their parents. Believable? Alas yeshttps://t.co/VGw8LkiCIV

Stephen King got blocked by Donald Trump on Twitter, so he blocked him back

TwitterFacebook

Despite being the master of horror, Stephen King can’t stomach Donald Trump.

King was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and talked about his cyber-interactions with the president. According to King, Trump blocked him on Twitter — although on Wednesday a judge ruled the president is not allowed to block people who disagree with him on the platform.

Apparently Trump blocked King “about eight or nine months ago.” When asked about what caused the president to block him, King said “I might have said he had his head somewhere where… a certain yoga position would be necessary to get it there.” Read more…

Stephen King really, really hates Twitter, apparently

TwitterFacebook

Well this is awkward. Stephen King — a notable tweeter — really, really hates Twitter, apparently.

On Tuesday night, the horror author appeared at the 2018 PEN Literary Awards, where he was receiving the PEN Literary Service Award. Each year the accolade is given to a critically acclaimed author of free speech, and King graced the stage to both accept the speech and advocate for the power of books.

In his speech, Stephen King thanked everyone from his editors at Simon & Schuster (“I’m surrounded by good women at Simon & Schuster … they’ve all helped make me a better person”) to the student activists and shooting survivors from Parkland, Florida, who were also being honored in the ceremony, “for their fierce advocacy and hard work in the wake of yet another school shooting.” Read more…

Hulu’s Stephen King series ‘Castle Rock’ gets a spooky new trailer and premiere date

TwitterFacebook

It definitely bodes well for a spooky, new web series when the unmistakable voice of Lost‘s Terry O’Quinn (John Locke, people!) is there to calmly tell you what’s coming.

Castle Rock is hard to pin down, and this trailer doesn’t clear up any questions. It’s a Bad Robot production — that’s J.J. Abrams’ company — and it’s set in a universe populated by Stephen King characters.

It’s both based on King’s books — many of which use the fictional Maine town of Castle Rock as their setting — and set in a story/world that is unto itself. Familiar characters and locations appear, but this is no adaptation. Read more…

14 Stephen King quotes about writing you totally need to hang on your wall

TwitterFacebook

The first Stephen King book I ever read was The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. I was still in my teens, and my gran — a huge King fan herself — thought it was the one I’d have the best chance of reading without getting too scared.

She was wrong about that (I scare pretty easily), but she was right to introduce me to King. He’s been my favourite author ever since.

It’s not just his stories that keep me coming back, either. He’s also a brilliant writer. From his gloriously grisly descriptions to his on point dialogue and character portrayals, I’ve always thought the horror master doesn’t get anywhere near enough credit as he should for his impressive command of language. Stephen King thinks ‘Stranger Things 2’ is ‘balls to the wall entertainment’

TwitterFacebook

Stephen King is the most iconic name in horror.

Do I even need to list his novels? The Shining, It, Misery, Cujo, and on and on into infinity.

So if you impress him, you’ve done something right. And boy, did Stranger Things 2 impress Stephen King.

STRANGER THINGS 2: Ladies and gentlemen, that’s how you do it: no bullshit, balls to the wall entertainment. Straight up.

— Stephen King (@StephenKing) November 9, 2017

Looks like someone just binged the hell out of Eleven and the Hawkins crew on Netflix. And he wasn’t scared of the Stranger Things haters, either.  Read more…
