There’s a HUGE problem with Xiomara the dancer on ‘Jane the Virgin’ and we need to talk about it

Jane the Virgin does a lot of things right. The CW’s resident telanovela is lovable to a fault, with characters and storylines bursting with sincerity and care that’s rare in most writing and production. It remains one of the most touching portrayals…

‘Jane the Virgin’ is showing how sexy conversations about consent can be

Warning: The following post contains spoilers for the most recent episode of Jane the Virgin.

Let’s begin this post with a necessary disclaimer: If you aren’t watching Jane the Virgin, you should be. The CW’s effervescent telanovela about a woman who’s accidentally artificially inseminated is now so much more; it’s a dense drama about complicated relationships, with some light fantasy and scintillating scandal thrown in.

“Chapter Seventy-Two” is the midseason premiere of Season 4, and it effortlessly portrays how consent should work – without every appearing to be a lesson or underlining its message in red. Read more…

Spoilers for Friday’s episode of Jane the Virgin

To be fair, Narrator did warn us.

A few episodes ago, Narrator told us that this season one of six characters (Rafael, Petra, Luisa, Alba, Anezka, or Magda) would die. It’s the oldest trick in the book, after all.

Well friends, Friday’s episode ended with Petra discovering her evil(ish) twin sister Anezka, dead, hanging from the ceiling, and a tease from Narrator: She didn’t kill herself.

Gasp!

This is devastating news for those of us who love to watch Yael Grobglas continue to impress by hilariously portraying both twins, but from a storytelling perspective, it certainly makes sense: You can only pull the old switcharoo so many times. I’m excited to see how this plot unfolds, and what mayhem at the Marbella ensues because of it. (Seriously, how many murders does it take to shut down a hotel?!) Read more…

‘One Tree Hill’ women accuses former show runner of sexual harassment, pen powerful group letter

TwitterFacebook

In an open letter published on Variety, the cast and crew of One Tree Hill Monday night have chosen to take a stand and collectively accuse show runner Mark Schwahn of sexual harassment, following OTH writer Audrey Wauchope‘s remarks from this past weekend.

18 women united against Schwahn in the letter – that’s 12 actresses and six writers, including stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton.

“Many of us were, to varying degrees, manipulated psychologically and emotionally,” the letter reads. “More than one of us is still in treatment for post-traumatic stress. Many of us were put in uncomfortable positions and had to swiftly learn to fight back, sometimes physically, because it was made clear to us that the supervisors in the room were not the protectors they were supposed to be.” Read more…

Here’s how the new addition to ‘The Flash’ will help keep the show running for seasons to come

As the latest episode of The Flash, “Elongated Journey Into Night,” makes clear, there’s about to be a new superhero in Central City, and his name is Ralph Dibny – at least right now. As the episode’s title suggests, soon enough – after a little training from Barry Allen – Ralph will very likely assume the moniker he’s gone by in the comics for 57 years: the Elongated Man.

But as Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg reveals, Ralph’s introduction wasn’t just a nod to the long, rich history the character shares with the Scarlet Speedster (although the Flash first encountered the stretchable sleuth back in 1960 and the has shared many adventures with him since). In fact, Ralph’s not just there to pump fresh blood into Team Flash; he’s there to give the entire show a creative goose as well. Read more…
