These millennial entrepreneurs think email is too slow for the startup world

TwitterFacebook

There are two types of people in this world. Those who live at inbox zero, who frantically read, remove, and reply to emails the very instant they arrive.

And, then there’s the rest of us: Those who live with thousands of unopened emails without a care in the world. I am one such individual—a millennial who checks my personal email once or twice a week, and my work email as few times as I can get away with.

To me, sending an email is the 2018 equivalent to sending snail mail. It’s insufferably slow, you can’t see if the recipient is online, and it’s hard to scroll back through previous messages.  Read more…

‘Plogging’ is a Swedish fitness trend that combines running with picking up litter

TwitterFacebook

Forget about Hygge, Lagom, and Ikea’s attempt to start a twin duvet revolution. There’s a new Scandinavian trend in town.

This trend encourages people to pick up litter while out running. So, it’s not just good for your health, it’s also good for the environment.

It’s called ‘plogging’—a portmanteau of jogging and the Swedish plocka upp, meaning ‘pick up.’

So hot is this new trend that fitness app Lifesum is allowing its users to log and track their plogging activity as a workout.

Plogging combines going for a run with intermittent squatting or lunging (to collect rubbish), which actually sounds like a pretty satisfying workout. According to Lifesum, a typical user will burn 288 calories in 30 minutes of plogging, which is more or less the same as what’s burned off while jogging.   Read more…

Bae creeping on their ex’s Instagram? They could be ‘micro-cheating’

TwitterFacebook

Cushioning, breadcrumbing, kittenfishing, tindstagramming—it seems there’s no end to the additions to our dating lexicon.

And, friends, we’ve got yet another term to add to our dictionaries: “micro-cheating.”

“Micro-cheating” is a new term to describe a partner’s “seemingly small actions” which suggests a person is “emotionally or physically focused” on someone else. Things like repeatedly liking an ex’s Instagram posts, or constantly texting someone else.

Readers beware: this term might bring you some momentary relief that there’s ~finally~ a word to describe your relationship pet peeve. But, you could end up misconstruing platonic gestures as “micro-cheating.”  Read more…

Ex texting you over the holidays? Yep, you’re being ‘Marleyed’

TwitterFacebook

Ebenezer Scrooge isn’t the only person to receive a visit from ghosts of Christmas past during the festive period. Turns out one in 10 of us are haunted by former flames over the holidays—a dating trend that’s been dubbed “Marleying.”

Named after Jacob Marley, the ghost of Scrooge’s former business partner in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Marleying is basically when an ex gets back in touch over Christmas after a long period without contact.

Researchers at dating site eharmony coined the term after they surveyed more than 4,000 British adults to find out whether they’d experienced the trend. The research revealed that 11 percent of singles have been Marleyed, while 8 percent admit they’ve contacted an ex themselves. Christmas Eve is the date we’re most likely to receive a text from an ex, according to the findings.  Read more…

What’s with all the upside-down Christmas trees this year?

TwitterFacebook

As the holidays draw nearer, you may have noticed a weird Christmas trend popping up on social media: the upside-down Christmas tree.

So what’s the deal? Why are people suddenly turning their Christmas trees on their heads? And is it making anyone else very dizzy?

The upside-down Christmas tree is exactly why I don’t bother to keep up with trends – it looks ridiculous 🙃 pic.twitter.com/6ALgFhVmul

Turns out, upside-down Christmas trees aren’t a new thing at all, despite being a very ~2017~ trend. In fact, per The Spruce, their roots are in the Middle Ages, when people would display them to signify the Holy Trinity.  Read more…
